CFS2 Repaint Problems

Postby Archer » Thu Oct 23, 2003 8:17 pm

Hi!
I've been doing some repaints of the stock Corsair model in CFS2.  I got some done, got a new computer, made another couple, then the next one I tried to convert using DXTbmp was extremely blurry/low quality in-game.  I had saved this as a 16-bit bitmap at one point, then back to a 24-bit bmp, so I thought this was the error.  I just finished my next repaint, and I had the same problem.  I installed a newer version of DXTbmp and now the repaint shows up in-game blurry, but much better than before.  The new version of DXTbmp has different extended bitmap types to choose from, whereas in the older version I just chose DXT Texture.  I tried the DXT 1 with alpha, DXT 1 without, and DXT 3, and they all are blurry.  Should I be using a different type of extended bitmap? Or is this a problem with something else?

A screenshot of my repaint in game is at:

The CFS2 default texture format is DXT1 Opaque. If that doesn't fix the problem try saving in the same format without Mips as Felix suggested. The latest DXTBmp has this feature from Prefs/Include Mips. Uncheck the option to save without them.

I tried DXT1 Opaque earlier, but I had MIPs on, I turned them off, saved, and had a problem that unless I was zoomed in in external view the texture would be black.  I went back to the old on, turned MIPs off, and saved as a DXT texture and it works fine now.

Thanks Felix and Hagar!  ;D

One thing though, any ideas why the newer version of DXTbmp didn't work correctly while the old version did?

Thanks

Archer. I've never had a problem with any version of DXTBmp. Textures including Mips have always worked fine for me. I suspect this depends on your system, typically the make & type of graphics card, version of hardware drivers & DirectX. As you mentioned a new PC this probably explains it.

Try using Imagetool.

When I repaint a stock aircraft I save the repaint in 16 Bit 565 with mips, so far I've had no problems.
