Removing Existing Textures

Postby Scottler » Fri Sep 12, 2003 11:58 am

This was asked a while ago, but it never really got a definitive answer, so I'm going to ask again.

Is there a way to remove the existing textures, thus leaving a clean "canvas" so to speak?

Someone had mentioned something about copying a layer and removing it or something...but this is where the confusion began to corrupt the answers for me.

Can anyone make any suggestions?  Maybe there's a way to extract the layers or something, because the main texture of the plane is great, but I want to remove the markings.
Great edit, Bob.

Scott. I make no claims to be an expert repainter although I do know the basic principles. The layers are merged before saving in the various FS texture formats so there's no way to extract them. Unless the author posted a paint kit for the particular aircraft this has to be done the hard way by using the different features of your graphics editor. The better you are at using it, the easier it will be. If it supports layers, create your own & work on the layers rather than the orignal image. Save your work in the native format of your graphics editor to preserve the layers. Keep this as your master copy for future tweaks. To create the textures merge the layers & save as in the appropriate format.
