Help with Repainting

Postby scurvy » Mon Aug 25, 2003 2:37 am

I want a jet black Boeing 747-400 but i can't figure out how to do it. I've been flying for a while but i've never tried to repaint or make an airplane and i would like to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need a program like DXTBMP and a paint package to make repaints.  There are some excellent links and walkthroughs on the subject in the Help section of the site.

Beware, repainting canm get a little time consuming as you strive to get it just right.......

Check out "Aircraft Repainting" in the design forum section.

Set up Paint shop as the paint package for DXTBMP.  Open the required texture in DXT and export it to Paintshop using the little icon at the bottom of DXT.  This will automatically open Paint shop for you if it's not already open.  Make the changes you need, close paintshop and it will save your textures as norm.bmp.

When you are back in dxt import the image back and save it with the same name as the texture you are converting.

By the way, how did you download Paint shop pro 8?

You can download a time-limited demo from the JASC site.

Paint Shop Pro has been my graphics program of preference over the last 8+ years (have been a registered user since V.1.0).  Arguably, Photoshop is the industry standard and probably remains the most powerful graphics/paint program, but it's pricey for my budget.

Cheers Felix.  I have 6.0 that someone bought me, still going strong.

The only problem with black airplanes is that you can't open the doors immediately after landing, because the aircraft has actually expanded as a result of the heat on the black surface, which blocks the door from opening....
Great edit, Bob.

May your mip maps suffer from acute pixelosis.

lol Felix...hey, I don't make the laws of physics, I merely share them with others.

I agree though, a black airplane would look great!
