Learning to repaint

Postby emh8 » Tue Jul 08, 2003 4:44 pm

Hi everyone!

I've spent some time trying to figure out this skill, without any success.  I've been using Garry Smith's tutorial as a guide.  He makes the process seem straight forward, but I have to be missing something important.........

What I have tried doing is using a .psd file in Photo Max Pro, applying my texture changes, converting it to 256-color and saving it as a .bmp file, and placing it into the texture folder as Garry instructs.

I know Paint Shop Pro is preferred, but I'm on a budget and I'm familiar with the tools in Photo Max.

Any suggestions are appreciated!  Thanks!

Erik :)

I'm not familiar with Photo Max. It might not be capable of saving images in 8 bit format. Try using DXTBmp to convert the repainted textures by saving in an FS Extended BMP format. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
DXT3 with Alpha is the FS2002 default format. read DXTBmp Help for more information. I'm sure this is covered in Garry's tute.

Using MS Paint can do it but no reflexive or metallic textures. :-[

I wouldn't recommend using M$ Paint unless you have nothing better. However, I'm sure it can be used in conjunction with DXTBmp to edit the Alpha channel for reflective effects just like other suitable graphics editors.
