Playing around with FSDS...

Postby Stormtropper » Sat Apr 14, 2007 12:20 pm

I had it for ages, only used it once before...

...and I kinda know why: it's hands down, the most annoying modeling program I have ever set my hands on :P

Anyhoo, I made all the glass pieces for the canopy, but for some reason, it won't boolean subtract...

...any ideas guys?

They're obviously intersecting... ::)

The FSDS boolean is glitchy, but if you notice, it basically does "all"  the operations  - add, subtract, etc.
 You delete the parts you don't want.

The "problem"  in the FSDS boolean is the number of extra vertices created.  Yo have the same thing in gmax, but not nearly as many extra vertices get created.

So there is pertty much nothing I can do?

Frankly, at the moment, I don't care about the extra verticies, I just want it to stop not working... :P

(I still don't see how can anyone make a complete aircarft in this thing without going completely insane...)

Without seeing a screenshot of your "part + tool"  and the result / error dialog, it's hard to diagnose a "not working" problem.

hey storm..

i use FSDS and i HATE the boolean opeartion soooo much!!!!it doesnt work, it only ruins the model :(
sooooo what do i do? ehehehe simple, pretend you're cutting a gear bay. you make a cilinder and shape it around your bay hole, then delete the polygons around the area on the wing, and join the two parts. once thats done pick every 3 points and hit Alt+P and then P (i think) and voila!! you got yourself a new poly! its tedious but beats the boolean tool nine ways a sunday.

im sorry im not bein too descriptive about it now but im not at my dorm, so i dont have acces to FSDS so i could show you with screenies and such. if you're intrested i think David Eckerett has a tutorial on how to do it, or shoot me an email and i can pull somethin together.

Inspector Poly could also help youu verdad Felix?

hope this helps :)
