say what you think

Postby mossdog » Thu Oct 05, 2006 11:46 pm

hey people just thought id take the time to say hi. Im new here (to aircraft design as well as to this forum) and so id appreciate your feedback. I have no idea about this kind of thing at all and so im begining to look for the software i need. Im guessing that theres no freeware stuff around as the software looks to complex  and so i was wondering what software would give me the best value for money and which is best for a beginner. Also price is important and so if theres any decent freeware software around that will let me "repaint" models id be greatful if you could point me in their direction. The only design programmes i have on my pc is mspaint (if you can call it a design programme), pixia (which i dont know how to use yet) and Lexmark photocentre and lexmark photoedit (dont know how to use those either). So if any people want to help the new guy your advice is appreciated.

ps i seen some of the projects you guys are working on and most are really good (actually i havent seen one that wasnt yet) and  i have to ask how long you been doing this for?
cheers

Hey MD. I've been modeling with Gmax for about a year. Gmax is a freeware program that is great for modelling Scenery and aircraft. It is a difficult program to learn and opperate but once you do can build about anything you want within the parameters of FS. There is many tutorials and forums for help along the way.
If you just want to paint you'll need a free ware program called DXTbmp. This program will allow you to convert any texture so you can edit it even with MSpaint.
There are also many painting tutorials here at SimV and other sites around the web.

You will also benefit and need the SDKs from microsoft.

Good luck and have fun. Greg

If you have FS9 gmax12.exe is included on one of the CDs.
