makemdl export from gmax - no options?

Postby mucksmear » Sat Apr 30, 2005 12:41 am

Hello,

When exporting my aircraft model from Gmax, Makemdl is launched, and the model is exported.  I am not given a chance to review/adjust any of the Makemdl export settings.

When I run Makemdl directly (without Gmax), I can review/adjust the export settings, however the export fails with any number of ambiguous errors.

How can I get Gmax to bring up the makemdl dialog box, but wait for ME to hit the "start" button?

thanks

The simple solution is to use MDLCommander, a freeware add-on which sits between GMAX and MakeMDL. One of the features of this little program is that it does exactly what you want. You'll find this prog easily if you Google for it.

there is also another program called 'Middleman' that sits between MDL commander and Makemdl... it also very recommended to get that too...

installation is quick and easy, and makes exporting a whole lot easier

hello,
you can configure the makemdl.cfg, adding this lines
[Options]
View Error Log=1
Keep Error Log=0
Keep Files=0
Ignore Bad Triggers=1
Ignore Bad Normals=0
Ignore Warnings=1
Use Full Material=1
Default Fallback Color=1
WeldPoints=1
Optimize=1
Flatten=0
NoAnimations=0
HasReflectMap=1
HasNightMap=0
HasLightMap=0
HasDamageMap=0
NegateZ=1
NoLeftToRight=0
SwapBankAndHeading=0
PartsVisibleTest=1
Crash=1
Xml=0
of course, 1 is true and 0 false. when you export, your settings will be recognised.
Please, forgive my english.

To get to the makemdl options, I believe you can also export as a bgl, not an aircraft mdl, so that when makemdl opens, you can set the options, etc., and then tell makemdl to export to an aircraft mdl file.
