No idea how to make a VC... have to learn that when i start using GMAX

I think you can use the same gauges as the R22.

Hi Ivan,
I can use almost al the gauges from the R22 but I will have to make a new airspeed indicator.
Because the R44 is a bit stronger, it runs about 130 kias.

This is how I make a VC:

DO ALL THIS AFTER YOU HAVE MADE A BACKUP.

Select the bits you've animated (rotors) and save them seperately.  Then select the whole model and group it and name the group exteria.  Clone the group and name the clone interia.  Adjust the pivot point of the group so that it is on the CG otherwise your pilot's view will be screwed up when you try the model in FS.  Hide exteria for now...

Ungroup interia and delete all the parts that you are not likely to see from the pilot's view as all these are just a waste of polys.

You will notice that all your animated parts are now wrongly named and so won't work.  Delete them all and use MERGE to add the previously saved versions.  You will be told that the newly merged parts have the same name as parts already in your model.  Rubbish, ignore that an merge them anyway.  Regroup the whole interior model and name it interior again.  Unhide exterior, save and export.

Works for me every time using GMAX 1.1.

Hope this helps.

If MS did it the way i think they did:
- Copy the R22 gauges CAB file to a new one, rename that one to R44.cab
- Use CAB extract utility to get to the internals of the file
- Get the ASI background bitmap and change the red parts
- Save that file, and repack

Thanks Gnome,

I will try this and let you know the results.
Is it possible for you to send me an example?

Thanks in advance, Nico

Ps,
I have made a camera for the R44 NewsCopter :

Image

if you like you can view it in 3d on my site :

Just click the image and install the small 3d plug-in to view it.

Very well done, Nico!  I really like the attention to detail.  If you want some comprehensive resources for all types of modelling and other things to do with FS, go check out the FFDS tutorials section (link in my signature).  They have a tutorial for just about anything you could want to do with your model.

Hi Nico,
Yes, I'll send you the source file from 'one I made earlier'.  Strictly for your own personal use mind....

Just make sure your R44 works in FS2002.   ;D

Hi Kev,
Thanks for sharing your model, it looks great I will sure learn a lot from it.
If you want to have the camera for personal use please send me an E-mail.

The camera in this way has a lot of polygons, so for the fs version I will reduce the polygon count but the look and feel will be the same.

Maybe I will animate the camera as well, and let it move together whit the rudder pedals.

Greetings, Nico
