GMAX Plane

Postby ryan6802 » Wed Jun 02, 2004 5:22 pm

I am new to gmax and I have downloaded a plane for fs2002 and am converting it into a fs9 plane.

I made it a .dmx file and have added the animation of the wheels to the plane I would like to test it on fs9 before doing any major work.

How do I get it turned into a .mdl file? I have tried before but it doesn't work properly.

Any information would be great.

I am getting a message that says

"MSXML4.DLL could not be loaded. Config files won't be read."

and

"Export module failure."

Copy that .dll from the FS9 main folder and put it where you have your other plugins for gmax.

I copied the .dll file to the plugins file in the GMAX file but I still get the same problem.

What do you mean when you say:

I have downloaded a plane for fs2002 and am converting it into a fs9 plane.

Do you mean you downloaded an aircraft that was already finished from a site and are trying to alter it, or do you mean you downloaded an unfinished project and are trying to finish it up?

Okay, what I am getting from that is you have downloaded a plane that is already flyable and are trying to modify it.  First off, you need to understand that modifying an existing model is a very touchy thing unless you have the authors permission.  If you are going to be using this aircraft for JUST your own personal use, I don't think there would be a problem, but if you plan on redistributing, you MUST get the author's permission.  If they will give it to you, you might also see if they will let you use their source files, as this would make life incredibly easier.  That way you don't have to worry about renaming things or animating and can simply construct on top of the original stuff.
