Aircraft.cfg and Aircraft Editor

Postby HABU » Sun May 11, 2003 2:33 pm

For my current project I have been researching all the data required for the Aircraft Editor modification of an air file. I inputted the data all the data I could find yet the aircraft behaves completely different than it should even with correct figures? :'(

How does everyone else manage to get their aircraft flyable without using incorrect data?  :(

Help!!

PS. Any good tutorials for .cfg or .air?  ::)

Check the " Flightsim Design Programs"  thread for the link to the avhistory/mudpond flight dynamics site.

I've found so many "grey" areas in the "black-box" we know as the .air file...

The most puzzling is the required entry of MOI's...After all,

Hi,
I was starting a FAQ but look at:

Air File Editors

Air File Board, post March 2003

I've made this posting a "sticky" because the links Ian posts are definite gateways to learning more on flight dynamics.

Howdy:

two things I'd like to add to this thread -

1. Tom Goodrick's excellent flight dynamics essay has helped me a lot to get rid of annoying AC behavior, particularly with respect to MOI and spring loading factors (bouncing on the ground). Here's the URL:

http://www.flightsimdownloads.com/pub/F ... namics.pdf

2. In my experience, it's better to edit the aircraft.cfg file than the .air file. Contrary to the claims in the MS Aircraft Container SDK, it's the aircraft.cfg file settings that take precedence. Case in point: I have "built" flight dynamics files for AI helicopters (soon to be uploaded) that ended up with two changes to the host .air file (braking strength and a second engine) and the other 99% of changes to the aircraft.cfg file.

Cheers, Holger

I would be happy to help if you arew working on something i am familiar with? I am not much help on the Mach 1.3+ stuff. I know from working with a few folks on some projects, the no wing all thrust aircraft are tough to model (F104 comes to mind).
Please let me know if I can help.

Tim - you can fly but you can't read .... :)

Hey all.....

Didn't really know where to post this, but I downloaded an excellent F4U, but the Aircraft wants to constantly pitch up, and turn right all the time. Which part in the Aircraft.cfg can i edit to change such characteristics. Thanks for your time.

Hello Goose ,
please don't post on this thread as it is a fixed meaasge for general info. It's best to start a new thread with a simple question in the subject line so there is more chance of someone answering it.

No, probably not the .cfg file. Depends how you got the model. Ask the maker if they get the same problem. It may just be your stick controller is not calibrated to centre with zero outputs.

:-)
