newbie with some questions

Postby waynelinda » Sat Mar 06, 2004 3:05 am

hello everyone first i want to say i love being a part of this group and reading all the posts.
I have just started designing my first planes in flight shop design studio and have a few questions.
first and i know its been asked a million times is how the hell can i make some textures. I can make a template of a part and i move it into photshop and paint it, but when i go to put it back on i get several error messages or the texture just covers a small area of the plane. can someone help me out with this?

thank you

Hi waynelinda, welcome.

When you are applying textures in FSDS, there are some rules to remember.

1. Your texture must be square, and a power of 2 (ie, 32x32, 64x64, and so on, up to 1024x1024).

2. When you select the part you want to texture, just quicly pop into "polygon mode", and select the all the polygons in the part by dragging the selection box around it.

3. In the texture assignment box, choose carefully how you aplly the texture, ie, TOP, BOTTOM etc. Remeber you can choose more than one - for example, using LEFT and RIGHT together is good for a fuselage part. If you apply a WRAP texture (in X,Y or Z) it overides all the other texture mapping you have on that part.

4. For your texture to be displayed in FSDS correctly, you must make sure it is in the right format. FSDS currently accepts:

8 bit standard BMP files
16 bit standard BMP files
32 bit standard BMP files

Note: 24 bit bmp files DO NOT WORK either in FS or CFS2.

If none of that seems useful, try some of the tutorials in the FSDS help, they have provided some good examples to help you get started.

Some other good places for tutorials for FSDS in general can be found here:
