737 cockpit windows?

Postby Mike Thurman » Wed Mar 03, 2004 12:35 pm

I'm working on a 737-900 and i've been trying to use booleans to make the cokcpit windows. They keep turning out like crap, does anyone know how i can make good looking cockpit windows??

Thanks

Create a spline in the shape of the windows.  Position it correctly over the spot where the windows will be in the forward view.

Select the fuselage of the aircraft (or whatever part the windows will be coming out of).  Where you see the words "Standard Primitives" on the right side of the screen, select "Compound Objects".  Press "Shape Merge" and then "Select Shape".  Now click on the spline you just created, and that shape will be cut out of the fuselage.

Right click on the words "ShapeMerge" under the Modify tab and select "Convert to: Editable Mesh".  This will make the object editable.  Select the polygon subobject modification and the polys you just "cut out" will be selected.  You can now detach them from the main object or delete them entirely.

Note to all:

While the Shape Merge function has been mentioned before, it's worthwhile repeating.

Ender - thanks again for  a "short and sweet" explanation.
