Whisper Craft

Postby Travis » Sat Jan 24, 2004 3:46 pm

Has anyone ever seen "The 6th Day" with Arnold?  I recently saw it for the first time, and was interested in the aircraft he was flying called the Whisper Craft.  Its the airplane that can convert to a helicopter when needed, sort of like a V-22 Osprey.

My question is, if I create it in Gmax, could someone make an airfile for it?  If it were a simple process of modifying a few config lines or something, I would do it myself, but this will require something along the lines of the V-22 or Harrier airfile.

Here's a picture of the aircraft:

Anyone up to the challenge?

One question:

How can we make the spinning rotors stop > line up > and then sweep back to make the wings?

Well, that's one of the things I was going to figure out once I got a confirmation of someone willing to make the airfile, but I have a few guesses.

Probably a combo of the flaps and prop settings, although I'm not sure about making it stop spinning.  More fiddling with it will show me if it will work or not.

Here's how it's done Ender Baron...

You chage the flap drag setting to enough for the aircraft to go just about 0-2 mph in a hover, than adjust the flaps positions to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 70, 90 degrees

Well, yeah.  I understand what to do with the aircraft.cfg file, but my problem is with Gmax.

If I just set the rotor to turn when the engine is on (prop_blurred, prop_still, etc) then it will turn constantly, regardless of what mode it is in.  But it needs to spin freely and with the speed of the engine, so it has to respond to the prop_blurred name.  There would be no problem with the movement of the blades once they are stopped.  That would simply involve the keyframe animation of the flaps.

So how can I make the blades spin when it is in helo mode, but lock and remain stationary in the right position when the flap key is pressed?
