You need "ejectable" gear as in it drops off after take off?

If so, it's practically impossible to animate.

You can "fool the eye" by having the l_gear the child of l_wheelwell (make this a small box inside the fuselage.  Set your animation so that key frame 0 is fully retracted, and keyframe1 is fully extended.  Give the extension/retraction a time of 1 second.

What happens with this is that the time from 0 to 1 is so short, that the gear appears and disappears suddenly.

The l_wheelwell part is a "visibility" part - that is, when the gear is retracted, any part tagged as l_wheelwell and it's children will not be visible.

Note that you also need the correct information in the aircraft.cfg [contact.points] section for this to work.

I been through these kind of problems before with Project Have Blue [F-117A Have Blue].

For the l_gear and r_gear to retract along with their child objects [or extend], do this:

Rename the l_gear to l_gear_top and the r_gear to r_gear_top. This is important for retract-extend animations. Then animate from retract-position to extend-position [0-100].

For compression-animations, use these tags: l_gear_bottom, r_gear_bottom. Use these tags on hidden boxes if you want the struts to bend on landings.

For rotating tires, use these tags only: l/r_tire_still, l/r_tire_blurred. I tried the l/r_tire_slow tag, but it gave me problems. For these tags, you don't need key-frames. Just simply adjust the rotating axis.

The reason I excluded the use of the "l/r_tire_slow" tag is that [in Project Mercedes] any tire with this tag tends to do some weird and unacceptable things. Trust me, it happened to me before. If this never happened to you, then good for you.

At this point, you should have landing gears that retract, extend, compress, decompress, and rotate.

For the tail-gears [or nose-gears], it all the same. The only difference is that you just need to use the prefix "c_*" instead of the "l_* or r_*" prefixes.

The tag issue was also true for the props that I make for any aircraft.

I hope this helps you because it worked for me. Good luck.

PS: I'll tell you the same d*mn thing that all the other people here in simviation have been telling me for up to 2 years. "Learn to get things done by yourself". I learned this lesson for Project Mercedes and Project Have Blue.

You need four markers.

First one goes at 0 or 1 - gear up

Second one goes at 100 - gear down

Third goes at 101 - gear down/no compression

Fourth goes at 200 - gear down/full compression

Well then there's no need to make it 200, but I do it anyway, whenever I have gear entries.  Most gear will "give" a little when you land on it, whether there is a compression strut or not.

And it wouldn't be 100-200, it would need to be 0-200.

EXACTLY!!!

The contact points in the Aircraft.cfg file tells the simulator how fast the gears retract and extend, how much the nose gear will turn, compression ratios, and such.

I hope you set the Dampening Ratio to 1.0 for every tire point. It's also in the [contact point] section. I use to have a problem where my aircraft designs always bounced and crashed. Setting the ratio to 1.0 has fixed it all. But this worked for me. I can't be sure about you.
