Has anybody ever bought these books? How are they?

Not that it surprises anybody, but my take:

gMax Bible - great reference - use it to look up the command and get specifics.  Expands on the help file, and does inlcude specific tips - "Tutorial: Using the ShapeMerge compouind object"  the CD has the example file for you to open and go through the motions.

gMax Handbook - more of a collection of mini-tutorials - make a FS airplane, make a scenery object and place it, make a Quake character, etc.

(Yes, I have both books)
