How do I enforce the V speeds?

Postby Gary Smith » Thu Nov 06, 2003 1:56 pm

One of the most disappointing things I find with an otherwise great A/C is the ability for the sim pilot to get away with murder. Specifically, dumping the gear at 200 IAS on a craft with a published gear extension "max", say, of 140, causing absolutely no harm (same with flaps, etc.). I know some A/C "enforce" these limits by breakage of some sort (usually the mechanism freezes).

How can I change these parameters? In the airfile? If so, can someone recommend a good airfile editor for FS9? Also, is it possible to alter what occurs if "breakage threshold" is exceeded?

Please excuse me if this subject is covered somewhere else in the forum and I have not found...

Help appreciated.

Hi Gary, the best air file editor is FSEdit (available here). The only thing you can do is put Damage on. That way doing silly things like dropping flaps or U/C will completely knacker them.
I've not got ACOF yet, but is 2k2 this seemed to work quite well.

Changing the damage speed is simple.  Its in the aircraft.cfg file.

Find the [contact_points] section in the aircraft.cfg file and find the gear points (usually the first three).  If they aren't readibly visible, look at the very first number after the point.X= and that will tell you what type of contact point it is.  1 is wheel, 2 is scrape, 3 is skid, 4 is float and 5 is water rudder.

To change the gear extension and damage limit, look at the very end of the gear's point entry.  The last two numbers are (in order) gear speed limit for retraction (in kts) and airspeed at which gear is damaged (in kts).  Change these to whatever you want and the gear will follow suit.
