Elevons

Postby ajver » Mon Sep 01, 2003 5:52 am

I am building an aircraft (FSDS.2) with elevons.  I have used the stock animation and called them elevon0L and elevon3R.  However, they are not moving at all.
Is there something else that I have to do, for example, making some entry in the .cfg file ?

Please help.
Thank you :o

Hi Ajver,

I had the same problem, one way to fix this is to have two sets of elevons, make sure the set you've already got has the axis sorted so they animate properly then copy and paste each elevon and name as below:

1st set: set stock animation as elevator_left and elevator_right

2nd set: set as aileron_left and aileron_right set both to reference part so they do not display in the sim.

Then make the 'elevator_left' parent part 'aileron_left' and 'elevator_right' parent part 'aileron_right'

That should solve the problem. If it doesn't let me know!!

Thank you HABU.  It sounds rather complicated, but I will give it a try.

Hello HABU.  Me again.
I have followed your instructions, and have now elevators, but still no ailerons.  Any suggestions ?

What is rather surprising to me is that the elevon stock animation is not working.  I would not like to be on an aircraft with an FSDS.2 lav dump valve !!! ;D

Your ailerons have to be named l_aileron or r_aileron

As to an LDV - it's a useful additional animation.  And I laughed a bunch when I it first showed up in the beta version of FSDS2.

Remember - you must have your original elevons renamed to elevator_l and elevator_r then copy and paste each one and rename them aileron_l and aileron_r as appropriate and make these reference parts so they don't show in FS, also make the elevator_l & r parent parts each respective aileron.

It's hard to explain but it's easy in real life..!

I mean how would you model lav dumping.....??

Thanks HABU.  I will give it a go again.

As for the LDV  --  well I don't know.

making the parent part for the elevators the ailerons (but having the ailerons invisble using reference part) should make the elevators follow both the elevator command and the aileron command.

You may need to adjust the elevator and aileron travel otherwise they will probably move way too much, I set mine to about 11 degrees for each part because if you pull the stick right back and to one side that'll only give you 22 degrees movement.

Hope it works out for you.
