Why, Gmax?

Postby Travis » Tue Aug 12, 2003 2:23 am

Why is Gmax doing this to me?

This is what it looks like in the sim:

Do you see the tail?

what have you named it?

and did you apply a texture?

also, try this. select your tail in gmax, then click 'heirarchy'> 'scale'. Then try exporting.

Okay, I figured out that problem.  There were hidden bits of the fuselage that had been left over from making the dern thing that were hidden, and so I didn't know to look for them. ::)  Fortunately I fixed this.  Now I have another issue.

I am in the process of cutting out my cockpit from the main fuselage by way of Shape Merge (under the Create/Geometry/Compound Objects) and then deleting the relevant polygons.  Something goes wonky right after I Shape Merge, because before that I can convert the aircraft to an mdl file, and afterwards the system says the MakeMDL couldn't do it for some unknown reason.  Does anyone know of another way I can cut out the cockpit, or what is bothering the MakeMDL?

makemdl is just a dodgy g*t of a program.

try boolean- or just select editable mesh, select the polys you want to separate, then right click and select 'detach'.

that should do it..

btw, where is you method from? Never used nor heard of it.

Okay, here's what I get when I try to export after I have done what I described above.  Keep in mind this only happens afterwards.  Before that I can export.

And what is this boolean?

I would simply detach the polys, but the makeup of the fuselage at the point is such that there wouldn't be enough left to stretch back to the edge of the canopy without changing the overall shape of it.

Well, I ended up trying to delete the vertices, and it kinda worked, but there is a sort of issue with the whole thing, so I think I'm going to start over from scratch and see what I can do with what I've learned so far.

Yes!  The H-1!  A great aircraft piloted by a great man (Wright).  If you feel like helping, I could email you some of what I've got.  Maybe you could take a look at it?  See what I'm doing wrong?  I have no experience with Gmax, this is my first project.  I would appreciate it to no end. :)

Okay, sorry to be sticking this thread in your faces again, everyone, but I have now pulled a numbnuts manuever with Gmax.

I was pressing shortcut keys on my board without looking at it and I think I pressed something like CTRL-C or -X or something in that area, and now I can't grab ahold of the 'gizmo' thing that makes it possible to move the object in one single direction.  It used to be blue, green and red for the x, y and z axes, but now its just a solid yellow and I can't grab onto them.  I can still grab the object itself and move it, but that isn't too accurate, so I am trying to fix it.  However, I am leary of going into the innards of the controls and messing with them.  I've messed up plenty of things plenty of times doing just that.

It isn't a serious problem, but annoying nonetheless.  If anyone knows what I pressed or what to press to fix this I would sure appreciate it!
