Need Mucho Help with pitch problem!

Postby N4733D » Fri Aug 15, 2003 1:10 pm

Well, have almost finished my version 1 pilot's airplane, the Boeing 757, but I have a big problem. Confirmed by REAL 757 pilots, the 757 rotation speed is 135 knots, I cannot get my 757 to pitch up before 170 knots, no matter flap setting or anything. Also, on landing, the minute the main gear sets down, the nose gear rams into the cement, frequently causing it to break, even with a high strength setting. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Also, could anyone tell me where to modify the veiwpoints? at the moment the spot where the cockpit view is located is far to far back, causing errors when taxiing and especially when parking. Thanks. :)

The FIRST thing that pops into my mind is that you have the COG set too far forward.

What program are you modelling in?

You can also change the COG in the aircraft.cfg file, where the COG is set relative to the aircraft datum point([weight and balance] section, reference_datum_position

empty_weight_CG_position=
-3.0, 0, 0: Offset (in feet) of the center of gravity of the basic empty aircraft (no fuel, passengers, or baggage) from the Reference Datum Position.

That may also be the problem with the view point

Felix do you mind if I send it to you? I messed with it and now the front landing gear collapses. :(

Pilot Viewpoint is a seperate entry in the aircraft.cfg file under 'views'.  If you edit that you can move the viewpoint up, down, left and right, fore and aft.

Hope this helps too!

Ok, found out the Elevator Control problem at low speeds which was causing the Nose to hit HARD on landing. At the landing speed of a 757, 140Kts. Indicated, the Elevator is virtually useless unless one of two things is used, either, a) a lower angle of approach, which would cause a harder impact anyways, or b) a burst of throttle, which makes the easiest way of approach to get your pitch set, slow to 130kts or so, and finally, as you cross the threshold and are about to touch down, burst the throttle to 10 percent or so. This will cause a minor acceleration, but will give you enough elevator to flare and set her down easy. :D ;)
