where do you get the orthographic views

hi
where do you find orthographic views that are used as the guidelines to start building aircrafts in Gmax. I have looked around and haven't really found any. I did the Gmax tutorial- but had a problem getting the cockpit windows to cut/ then bevel and look correct.

I wanted to play around with some other designs- , but haven't had much luck locating them. Not picky-just looking to practice

I would suggest you take a trip to your local bookstore & head for the Aviation section - whatever category that may be under. (often 'Transport')
Take a look at several reference books & with little doubt (if the bookstore is any good at all) you will find books listing most aircraft & including B&W 3 views which you can scan & use as backdrops ..

After 7 years of aircraft modeling, I'd have to say the best source of 3-view drawings is at:

While his drawings are payware - they usually cost from $3 to $5 for a set of drawings - they usually are top quality and are just what the modeler is looking for. He has 38,000 drawings in his collection. They're usually scans of drawings that originally appeared in various aviation magazines around the world.

I love books, but I rarely have been able to get a good three view out of them. They almost always have the drawing too close to the spine of the book and you get a distorted image when you try to scan it.

A quick search on Google usually produces some good results as well.

I refuse to call Bob Banka's service a source of "3-views"
-even if that's what he calls it himself.

I prefer to think of his services as aircraft modelling documentation.  When I order from him, I choose the "better" plans... scale drawings,with cross sections, details, etc., that you cannot get from a 3-view.  Additionally, he provides photo-packs...


(which reminds me - John - did you do the Japanese transport for the Confirmed Kill beta?)

You can get "3-views" from just about anywhere...  from Banka's service, I get scale drawings.

Yes I did the Japanese transport in the beta version of CK. Actually, I think I did all of the player aircraft for CK. Another modeler did the AI aircraft. The details are getting fuzzy as I tend to forget bad memories rather easily.

Originally we had talked about using a modified version of the C-47 since the Japanese had built some "licensed" versions of the Douglas aircraft during the war. But I found a copy of an issue of Koko-Fan (sp?) that had hundreds of 3-view drawings of Japanese aircraft. Many of which I never had seen before or since. The AT-2 was one of these aircraft. The flight model was anything but accurate as it literally was two P-51 strapped together. The captions were all in Japanese, but the dimensions were metric, so we could figure that part out.

It would be tempting to convert some of these CK meshes into MSFS planes - but with the failure to complete the sim, as far as I've heard, technically the meshs have reverted back to Eidos control.
