Postby Slotback » Wed Feb 06, 2008 11:31 pm

WindowsXP
Bla...bla....bla

FsX over Seattle at 500 knots without any blurries sure is impressive!

Anywayz, I renember a thread ages ago where Nick ran through the process of disabling background services and changing prefetch settings. Can anyone renember what thread that was? What page?

Thanks.

I just got my quad and that's one of the first things I noticed-almost no blurries.

I'm using 169.21 WHQL right now.  I've also used 169.13 and 169.04 and they all seemed to work well.  169.21 is the official release (not beta driver).

I'm on 169.13 and they messed up my fsX menues and STALKER menues. : :-? Oh well.....

And would Ntune work with my motherboard (even if it is very limited)?

Do NOT use nTune.  The consensus is that nTune is not reliable or efficient for overclocking.

Did you use Driver Sweeper before you installed 169.13?

What's best Overclocking tool for 8800GT?

ATI TOOL
or
Riva Tuner

I use Riva Tuner for fan control and ATI Tool for the clock because nvidia keeps breaking clock support in RT and ATI Tool does not seem to be affected

use the 174.12 beta drivers.. best bet

and

Anyone that tells you a quad is not woth it in FSX, its because they dont own one or dont know how to use a computer/FSX

I have been posting that for well over a year   I dont post that stuff for nothing

Thanks Nick! One question, can beta drivers cause severe problems with systems? I'm using XP btw. :)

Another question, BIOS shows 1.325vcore, Core Temp shows 1.325vcore, CPU-Z shows 1.296vcore. Which one is right?

If it is slightly undervolted, will there just be errors and crashing, or would the pc just fail to boot at all? And in BIOS there is an option called High Speed DRAM DLL Settings... does this refer to 1t and 2t command rates? If so, can a setting of 1t affect stability?

1. Beta us a beta.. try it and see... no workie no use'e

2. Use this... http://www.overclock.net/attachments/do ... at-tat.zip

What ever it tells you, its the right temp because that was designed by intel specifically to read the correct temp

3. undervolt depends on the clock.. if default, probably not, overclocked it could

4. Dunno... would have to look it up. It does not sound like a CMD setting. If the settings for it are something like: OPTION 1 and OPTION 2 then its not a CMD setting and most likely a O/c assist for sub timings.

Thanks Nick. :)

Another noob question, all the drivers for this computer came installed - not sure about chipset drivers however. Is there a folder in Windows with all the driver files... or another way to find out?

Because I don't want multiple installs of chipset drivers?

Chipset drivers are updated depending on the board.. with Intel, you just run the installer and let it overlay

With VIA you can do the same and it will identify what needs to be installed

Usually with Nvidia chipsets I uninstall first before upgrading..

its a matter of experience and reading the instructions for the product

If you see no chipset driver in add and remove programs its because the vender or MS has the driver built into Windows but may times I find that MS driver SUCKS and go to the website for the motherboard, or the chipset itself (all Intel chipsets go to the Intel site for drivers) and get the latest

I have an ATI chipset and I had to go to ATI to get the drivers. Asus who was the board manufacture did not provide them.

I just got my quad and that's one of the first things I noticed-almost no blurries.  Now get that sucker clocked up over 3 GHz and see what it does!

scroll down a couple posts and he starts the prefetch cleaning and the rest there.  I did it and everythings crisp and fast on my system.

I've used this guide on my xp machine, is it similar for Vista?
