just got an e6600 not to happy wiuth the speed playing gothic3.  how do i overclock it. also my ram is

I swear the E6600's multiplier is locked at 9?

Well as far as I know the multiplier should be at 9 (11.5x impossible because it's locked) and the FSB should be at 266.

I think I'm being stupid here... can someone see something I can't?

I thought even the engineering samples had locked multi's, more likely the diagnostic software mic is using is whacked. Pity it's not true lol, if it was, his PC would be worth a fortune on overclockers.com muahahaha

my sytem is an OEM rig and the bios are scanty to say the least. the only thing i can see is changing the speed/timing on the RAM it is now 5 5 5 15 also the voltage is changeable but very limmited

you guys know how to unlock a OEM bios on my system??

Firstly, you need to find out what kind of a computer you actually have and what it is capable of, I already know quite a bit about it by the bios signature, but I need more info.

When you figure it out, post back your mainboard ID, (this is quite specific, right down to the revision number if specified) and a link to it's manual so we can help you. Opening up the case may reveal the board's ID written onto it.

What you need to find out is the chipset it uses and what that chipset means in terms of capability and flexibility.

Usually, you'll find that OEM's have special OEM bios's which are useless. However, this may not be the case.

Some newer OEM's have REAL motherboards and bios's, just because you don't see the options in BIOS does not mean they are not there. Some OEM boards use special keypresses to unlock the hidden advanced bios, so kids and fools don't blow up Daddy's PC.

For anyone else who happens upon this page, this should serve as a warning to you why it is important to construct your PC's starting with the mainboard, which should be carefully researched and understood prior to purchase, as it determines the PC's potential.

You cannot flash with another bios, if you try something like that and somehow manage to stuff your bios, you may as well throw the PC in the garbage can.

There is a bios update available for you board which is a few versions in advance of the one installed on it now, it fixes a multitude of issues.

I cannot find a link to your manual so I can't help you find the options in bios you need.


Interstingly, the new bios supports some kind of microsoft oem registration (probably for Vista) so it looks as if Intel and M$ might be in bed at the bios level to prevent windows Vista from being illegally used. Very interesting! Whether the function is being used or not, I do not know.

I found the product guide and the board has a jumper setting for maintainence mode, this is most likely the place where you will find the advanced settings. I think the settings will be limited but I'm not sure. The maintainence mode jumper is set to pins 2-3 for maintainence mode, read your guide.

Assuming there are BIOS settings available it looks like we are running mixed memory modules which will most likely hinder any attempt to performance clock the system. The lower spec modules will most likely peter out and force the system to restrict clocks that may add to any real performance gains.

Real perofrmance comes from a balance between the CPU and memory bus, not just a CPU boot speed

Just because a CPU boots and runs 3.6gig does not mean that system is going to boost real world applications. The memory buss must also be able to keep up with any enhanced CPU settings or the increase is typically null.

Its going to come down to the BIOS and how much control is available to the user.

thanks guys for all the info.  yes i now have 4 g;s of corsair ram 667mhz.

looks like i'll have to talk to the OEM here in Canada to give be access to a better set of Bios. than what i have. i can only get to the ram speed /voltage and timing.  but if i drop the timing the ram becomes 500mhz or something . that seems counterproductive.

I'll try to keep you guys posted regarding how the OEM reacts to my request to unlock the bios.

your comments re my ram speed thought would be appreciated.
