What OS would you use?

Postby CDreier » Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:58 am

I'm in the process of compiling a list of components for a new computer which I'll build myself (with some help).  Now that Windows 7 is officially released - or about to be - what OS would you use?  Vista Home Premium-64 is what I'd planned on using, but I hate to buy it when Windows 7 is the new standard.  Until Windows 7 SP1 is released I have some hesitantcy to use it due to potential bugs.  I don't think you can get an upgrade coupon when purchasing the OS for yourself which makes buying 2 OS's out of the question.  Thoughts?
My Specs:
i7 920 oc'd to 3.8
6gb Corsair RAM
ASUS P6T Deluxe v2,
EVGA 275GTX
1TB WD 7200/32 Black
2x 750GB WD 7200/32 Black
Samsung 22" 1680x1050 LCD
Corsair 800D case
Windows 7 64-bit

Go XP pro 64bit until the version of Windows 7 comes out that you are comfortable with.

I got my copy of XP pro for $20(US dollars) at a college book store. It came as a 2 disc set, one for 32bit, and one for 64bit.

For that $20, I can still feel good about moving to Windows 7 when I'm ready, and will be happy that I completely missed out on the Vista nightmares.

Nice but, what exactly are the vista nightmares? I've never had a problem.

I've tried using my dad's Vista computer, and I just can't seem to wrap my mind around it.

I'm using a release candidate of Windows 7 :D, I love it, build 7100, I'm not going to a newer build, my friends L4D crashes if he looks at the little add that says what server your on (GA, 3FL ect...)  :(

But yes Windows 7 is very good, a comparison, On my dad's computer he has the same speed, and size and RAM as I do, whilst idling his RAM usage is 50% :o, Mine is 29%
Much difference there :D :D :D

I will keep using my version of XP Pro for as long as possible. It's stable, fast, stripped of all unnecassary BS and it does what it has to do. I have no reason to upgrade to Vista or 7.

Crash ;)

Being the old "stick-in-the-mud" Chap that I am, with zillions of "old" computer Games Software, I shall continue to use Windows XP Pro.
Its simple, and always seem to do the job for me!... :-*...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...and happily wallowing in a mud bath!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

I went straight from Win '98 to Win XP Pro.

....(DOS was fun...for a while!)... ;D...!
