Internet Security Software

Postby Wii » Mon Nov 10, 2008 7:17 pm

My trend micro internet security software has expired and I currently can NOT afford to upgrade/renew my license. I have two options: 1. My dad has some sort of McAfee IE security from his work for free (bad experiences with McAfee so I'm not so sure...) more details on what version it is later. 2. AVG free version... I have a few questions about it: is it safe and light on the system? Does anyone else use it? Any opinions?

Thanks :)

Correction on my post when I said "...all you need."

Throw in Ad-aware free just for the extra protection and clean up crew. ;)

SpyBot is also a good one to run alongside Ad-Aware ;)

I used to use AVG free, then somebody told me about Avira Antivir Personal. It picked up a couple of "warnings" on the first scan that AVG didn't detect.. I've coupled it with SUPERAntispyware.

The only downside to SUPERAntispyware is you have to manually start the scan, the scheduled scan is only available in the paid for version.

Both are free and the best I've used so far... and I've used a LOT!

AVG free here as well.  Great.  And AdAware and Spybot.  To quote the Beatles '"..... it's a clean machine."

best,

I think the latest version of AVG is now only for 30 days. I may be wrong.

Ad-Aware 08, SpyBot 1.60 and AVG Free
Downloading now!
Does AVG free have a quarantine function and will wit notify you of any "dangers"? Thanks guys ;) :D

Good ;D Trend Micro works great BUT it is SUPER heavy on the system...not during gaming or anything but more during start up...literally (after updating etc) it takes about 3 minutes to start up :-/ But I am downloading AVG right now (and making sure TM is completely gone...) ;)

Thanks again :D

It has a quarantine and will notify you if there is a danger opening something, or running something. ;) Very useful.

If you could afford it i'd reccomend the Eset security suite anyday, i've used it for the past few years and had no problems at all.
