Anyone got this sim yet. I Picked it up yesterday and plan on loading it tonight. All 60 gigs worth :o. Some of the google videos look pretty cool. Here is a link to the site for any who are interested...

Hope to do some screen shots of it when I have it loaded and tweaked.

The water in the screenshots look amazing, and all the rest look like the best parts of FS9 and FSX in one sim! Let us know what you think.

I've often wondered about X-Plane... ::)...!

But it always looks so bleedin' complicated to me... :o...

Massive downloads for separate bits and pieces of the program!... :o...

...and the size all of the bits and pieces to download would be a problem even for my <2Meg  Broadband connection... :'(...!

So, it will be interesting to know your opinion of it....and is it worthwhile, compared to FS 2004?..... ::)...!

Is it available as a complete, fully incorporated, CD retail version of the program?.... :-*....!

Paul...Plain simple... ;)...!

It's six DVD's. 60 gigs worth. The fist disc is about 11.5 gigs. The other 5 DVD's are the scenery discs that range from 12.5-13.2 gigs. I got tired last night and only loaded 1-3. I am loading the rest tonight and then tweaking it for a test flight. I hope to have some screen shots and a little back round on what I think so far by at least Saturday afternoon.

In the mean time, if anyone is interested, if you do a Google video search of "X-Plane 9" there are several videos for the new sim. Some of them better than others but at least you get a taste of what the new sim looks like.

Thanks for your thoughts. I hope to see all of you real soon in the freeware pics section. ;)

I've looked into the screenshots of this new sim.

From the looks of this, it can go a long way. I mean, the texture of the terrain is pretty impressive and so are the reflections. However, I think they need to work a bit more on the actual mesh of the terrain as the mountains appear to be a bit jagged at the peaks. In terms of graphics and price, I say FSX and X-Plane 9 are about the same. But in terms of terrain mesh, FSX still has the lead.

Finished loading it tonight and nada...Think it has something to do with the load on an exterior HD. Started to reload it straight to my C drive but then  decided that it's to late tonight and I have to be at work Thursday. I will retry Thursday night. Before I deleted it off the E drive I noticed a few of the planes and other AC available in the sim. B-1, B-2, F-22, SR-71, V-22, 747-200, F-35, The Hindinburg, Space Shuttle, 777, Cesnna (don't remember which), KC-10, Cirrus (single engine jet power, looks kinda like a Global Hawk, neat interior VC package), and an Anphib AC of some sort but couldn't remember it's designation. Over 30+ AC by default to include some X-planes. Looks like a pretty sweet array of default AC. Just got to get it to run correctly.

Do check out the Google videos of X-plane 9 though until I can post some shots of my own. This looks as though it will be an FSX killer but this is just MHO. If it runs and looks as good or better than my FSX I may have to ask humbly to include X-plane shots into the screenshot contest :D ;D.

It's not an fsx killer - but it does have some awsome qualities.

It's extremely flexible, and its flight dynamics are insanely good. For example, including with it is one of 'Austins designs', a FORWARD sweep, flying wing, engines attached to the end of the wings. The amazing thing is, the second you turn OFF the simulated fly-by-wire, the aircraft will go completely out of control.... and the fly-by-wire actually works by moving the flight controls, it doesn't magically change the flight dynamics.

You can also go in the X-15 and attempt to break speed and altitude records. It's interesting, once you get above the atmosphere there's no gravity and you have to rely on the hydrazine thrusters to change which way you're pointing!

And you can fly on mars.

And I don't think it's possible for a X-plane to even come close to MSFS in terms of graphics, gauges, or screenshots - so if you're after a heavy simulator X-plane is not going to give it to you.

Ive been reading some of the stuff on there website and it all sounds pretty good. However id rather read somthing from someone who can objectively comment on it! Looking forward to that!

Oh, and they have 'secret' meetings in germany. Its secret you know. And they cant tell you about the secret meetings, because it was secret, highly secret. But they take pictures of themselves looking highly secretive and put them on the site saying this is at the secret meeting. Which was secret. They discussed secret things, so they say ::) ;D :D

That bit sort of made me think 'oh dear'  ::)
