I just download Firefox 3 Beta 2.... It is great!! It is faster than before, the download manager is improved and it has a great unique feature. You know how you type in an address into the address bar and it drops down with possible matches from site you've visited before? Firefox has improved on that. It not only auto completes URLs but you can also type in PAGE TITLES! and it will auto complete and match it to the URL!! You have to see it in action to fully understand. For example I can type in "Simviation forums" and it will come up with the URL to these forums, saves trying to go through the links or type in that weird URL!! It has already become second nature for me to use it. http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/11/fire ... -almighty/ this gives a more detailed example.

Mic - I love that film! It's the best one in my opinion!

It should be out soon... Usually the second beta is the one before final release. They sometimes go through 2 or 3 release candidates before final release though, but these are only for final bug checks. As far as I can tell they have no specific date.

Firefox 2.0.0.11 already does something similar. Type simviation forums in the address bar & press Enter.

I'll keep to that for now as I prefer my English (British) version. http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

What that does is a Google Search set on "I'm Feeling Lucky" for what ever you type in the bar, it isn't the same feature.

Pros for it over IE? It has more customisation... you can change the themes and there are lots of toolbars (more useful ones in FF ive seen, than IE)

Other 'gray area' stuff:
Firefox isnt actually any more secure- In an IE6 and Firefox 1 test, IE6 was more secure and I think the trend is still the same
Firefox shouldnt actually perform better- It uses more of your system than IE7 and so weaker systems may stuggle from FF
Firefox is 'faster' than IE- Umm, well, FF just got a pcpitstop download speed of 1312kb/s and IE7 just got 1577kb/s. But in many cases the  'fastness' is equal in both.

I am a firefox user, but it isnt a super browser... Opera is much more secure and soposidly faster than IE or FF

Well, I tried FF for a few days. Man, was it annoying. I believe everyone when they say it's better, it just didn't do it for me. I'm back with my old Maxthon browser. Much easier to use and just as fast.

Crash ;)

Sorry, I have to take down a lot of your comments.

Firstly you can't compare current versions of Firefox to Firefox 1! There have been far more improvements and three years of development since then. Firefox is a dynamic, always evolving browser due to its open source nature. IE6 and 7 are stagnant and only get major updates every few years! As a result Firefox is far more secure due to the fact that all security problems are patched quickly.

Next Firefox doesn't support ActiveX, the Achilles Heal of IE6 and 7. This one API is what allows all of the spyware, adware, trojans and othe nasties onto your system.

Firefox shouldnt actually perform better- It uses more of your system than IE7 and so weaker systems may stuggle from FF

You don't state which version of Firefox you are basing this on, but I will assume a recent one. Nor do you state your source for this statement. I just ran a few test on my own rig and found that with one page open, IE7 and Firefox both used the same amount of resources. As soon as I started opening a few tabs, IE7's resources absolutely ballooned past those of Firefox. Firefox's resources barely grew at all.

8. Spellchecker :P Perfect to combat all of the spelling natzis here

Clearly the spell checker doesn't have the word "nazi" in its dictionary. ;) ;D

Wingo...

firefoxmyths.com is my only source... though it is critasised for not being top notch, its the only source ive seen which actually has more than just 'oh it just is better'

I was download an image. pcpitstop has an image weighing about 3mb and it records the time from starting the download to the end of the download and gives you a kb/s speed.

tweek - Ah, you have to love the irony!!

machineman9 - That webpage, even though it does state sources, is highly biased and only uses selective sources to quote its information. not to mention it is also very old. For one, it claims the market share for Firefox has been falling. At W3schools they have a table showing the market shares of each browser, as you can see Fx has been growing while the total share of IE has been falling. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Also, I gave that pcpitstop a trial. here are my results.

IE7 - 1039 kilobits per second

Firefox - 2127 kilobits per second

If you want some unbiased opinions on Fx, I would suggest googling for some reviews by Cnet, download.com and other reputable sites.
