Il 2: 1946 question

Postby krigl » Wed Sep 05, 2007 6:14 am

Hi, I know this isn't an Il2 support forum, but have just bought Il2 1946 and the game won't start. It says Il2fb.exe error (or whatever the name of the starting exe is) and that's it.

I've reinstalled it 3 times and it's always the same. I have GeForce 7800, Core2 6600, 2MB memory, WinXP etc etc and quite new drivers but I'm not sure if the exact parameters of my comp would affect this issue... or could they? Is it worth me joining an IL2 support forum to ask about this? Basically, the exe doesn't work.

I'm really disappointed  :'(

Any brief help welcome!!

Silly question, but are there any read.me files on the disk that speak to the problem?

I installed IL2: 1946 a few months back without problems. Then I tried to play it. Within 3 minutes I had my first BSOD and then the next and the next. Re-installed it, the same problems.Never found a (simple) manual either. I uninstalled it and I've thrown the box in one of my desk drawers. Maybe, one day when I feel very brave and have plenty of time, I'll try it again.

Crash ;)

Thanks for the feedback Crash... I think I'm going to try to take it back to the shop. Whether they'll accept it is another matter. Someone in a different shop told me it could be due to any kind of compatibility issues, drivers, hardware.... I just don't have the know - how to sort it out. My comp is virtually new, has decent components - the bl*** game should just work shouldn't it.... I know it's naive to think like that  ::) :D

Try this thread...

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 9291006785

See if it helps...Contact the guy...Or search for the file on the net...I also found on Google that people renamed their their .exe file to il2.exe and that seemed to fix it...Try it...Make sure you make a backup before modifying the .exe file... ;)

Thanks Ashar!! That's very good of you! I just seem too busy these days to chase anything up - and I will try the exe change, if not will get on the forums there and see what they can do for me  :)

Make shoure you use the correct sound driver as this sim/game is very picky about the sound.  If thats wrong it will make the game FPS slow down and crash.
