Remote access

Postby expat » Mon Jul 30, 2007 4:30 pm

Before I tear my hair out with the following can someone answer this:

I am in one country and my parents are in another. As "Silver Surfers" they have the odd computer problem. With XP it is possible to do the remote desk top thing. Is it really as easy as entering the IP of the other computer and then clicking on "OK". I ask in advance in an effort to keep my blood pressure down ;D

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Yes. But to be honest I think you would probably be better off using 3rd-party software, not XP's own remote access tools. Theres a good one called RealVNC, which I use all the time. You need to download the software onto each computer, and your parents will have to click on the "Run VNC Server" and specify some options, all of which I imagine you could explain over the phone.
