Microsoft office registration

Hi,

I did have the trail office 2003, version 60 days, But then I was given a Legal compy of office pro 2003 by a friend...he said that he had not used it as it came with his laptop...could be the cd for the office that is on his laptop already...? as when I try registration I says that it has reached it installed limt?

help please I have 27 time left and lot of course work to do...

With MS Office 2003 it should allow install on up to three different computers. Or at least my version allows up to three, you need to read the EULA for the version you have. I would have to assume that the registration code has already been registered to your friend and that is why it won't let you register it.
About the only thing you can do is call MS at the number it provides and see if they will activate it for you. Chances are they might but then again your not the "Legal" buyer of it.

The registration process probably scans your computer setup and by doing so noticed that it isn't the same machine that the software is already registered with.

Depends. If your a student you can get it pretty cheap.
So your looking at anywhere from $90- $400+.

get openoffice.org, its free, and has the same stuff, and a couple extras. from SUN Microsystems

Open Office is a nice office suite. The thing I don't care much for is the fact that a Open Office document can not be opened by MS Word (or I haven't been able to get it to work).
But Open Office can open MS Office documents.

It does if you change the file type to Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP .doc when saving.

Hmm will have to try that again tried before and it didn't work. Is that becasue it needs to origonaly saved that way or can you do so with older documents?

Officially you're not allowed as the OEM license tells you that the software should only be used with the machine that it came with.

Obviously the registration servers at Microsoft do not know the difference between your pc and your friends laptop but just so you know.

You're not allowed to transfer an OEM license to another machine.

Officaily MS has two types of software one you can load on OEM that is a New computer Which means a brand new machine not ever used, the other is life software in your name which you can use on any machine which you use which means only one machine as you keep upgraging or formatting and so on.
The OEM software has a reuse of 8 times on one machine as per the IP address if you have a different IP it shows as pirated.
You must be having the OEM version just check it out.
