Firefox or Opera???

Postby Alonso » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:41 pm

I recently turned from FireFox to Opera because it really uses less ram but they say FireFox 2 beta 2 will use less, so now I think I may change again but as always I want your reccomendations  ;)

I use Firefox but have never used Opera. So this answer is bias but I think you should go Firefox. It has some of the best security features you can get (I remember when I used IE... I had the same virus software, surfed the same sites, and stuff like that and I had to get a new harddrive about 4 or 5 times due to a virus ruining it. Got Firefox and never had it happen since!)

Yes, I have used FF too, but Opera has a lot of security too, what I wanna know is if there is something Opera can't do against FF ;D

Tried them both, and happen to like firefox better. Personally, I think Firefox is a little quicker too.

They are both slower than IE because IE is built in into the operating sysyem. On a new computer it is hard to tell the difference though. Opera used to be adware and had banners in it unless you registered. I guess they had to get rid of that to compete with Firefox. I haven't tried the new Opera, the old one was crap.

IE7 will top them all for speed and security

I never found any browser I tested better than IE but I also know how to set IE up for max performance and max security.

For those of us who do, IE is great? But for those who don't FireFox is by far better.

In the time it takes my IE to load the first page of SimV, I could have read the whole forum with Fire Fox :P

Thanks for the answers, I'm not going back to IE, since it's too slow on my comp, I think that until they release FF2 (Official version) I'll stay with Opera, runs as soft as butter here ;D ;D

To make IE secure you need to pretty much disable everything. Yes, you are more of an elite power user because you use a broswer that you need to tweak to make secure.

The speed of FF is one of the reasons I use it over IE.
With the proper extensions I now see absolutly no ads, only see Flash when I want etc. Tab browsing, security and the ability to make the browser "your own" is something that IE will never give you.

If there are IE tweaks that make it faster than FF please post them, becasue I have disabled everything, tried this and that and IE is no where near as fast as FF.

Just as mentioned above I went to SimV on IE and it took 49 seconds to load the main forum page (and this it text and banner ads dont help). FF less than 3 seconds (this on a dial up connection)
