IE7 Beta 2 and 3 question

Postby Mick_C » Sat Jul 01, 2006 11:30 am

I just updated my PC (other one got pinched) and wanted to try IE7 Beta 3. I tried IE7 Beta 2 and liked it a lot, however, FS9 didn't!

there is a method where you can use beta 2 (not sure about beta 3) without installing it
it is at http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/0 ... thout.html

this way you can use the beta while FS can still use the normal IE

Wow... Nice... thanks EirePlane  ;D I'll try the workaround on Beta 3 and see what happens as well.

Have you considered using the excellent "Mozilla Firefox", as an alternative browser to "Internet Explorer"...?

While Firefox is just a brilliant browser, at some point you are going to come across a website that wont work properly with  it and you will need to use IE. May as well have a version better than the "bog standard" version 6.

Either way, I still prefer to use Flock because of the blog tools and other extras and because it's built on Firefox

lol, yea it looks a little "my little pony" with all the pastel colours and stuff, but it is only in beta. with a little tweaking, you could probably get a few firefox themes working with it.
the most useful things on it are probably the way it lets you manage any feeds you subscribe to and how it can automatically store your bookmarks online, especially handy on a multi-boot machine

I just updated my PC ...

Good news folkies, I tried Mozilla and liked it a lot. I'll run both for a while to see which one wins out overall.

It did have a couple of uninstall issues (mainly cleanup), but I attribute this behaviour to the lame software that came with the PC, and not mozilla.
Installed and tested IE7 Beta 3 and actually couldn't "break it"....

Hi Mick... ;D...!

If you decide on Mozilla Firefox, don't forget that there are lots of very useful add-ons available via the Mozilla site...
...dictionary/spell checkers, ad-blockers, wine/beer offers, penis extensions, etc...etc.. ;)...!

Once you use Firefox for awhile and do some system scans and realize that you no longer finding useless junk bogging down your PC (spyware/adware and the likes), you see page load times decrease dramatically (even on dial-up) and you can change the looks features and add what you want (highly recomend Flashblocker no more annoying Flash! Adblock making internet advertising a useless thing to persue, lmao) you'll wonder why hasn't MS ever figured this out!

It is all common sense, you get the browser you want and not be stuck with all the crap you don't ;)

By all means keep IE just don't use it, lol. There are still some sites that have'nt got enough common sense yet to realize that the internet users are tired of being told what to do, how to do it, or when you can do it. Or that we are tired of constent security issues requiring constent updates and patches ;)

Only time I use IE is for Windows updates, any site that won't let me browse on FF is a waste of my time ;)

Politically Incorect you and Fozzer brought up more points than I can investigate in 48 hrs. In addition, being in the business since 1989 I see ALL software across ALL platforms as a sort of Apple and Oranges propositions. It's all binary coding and money (spent) on development to package a specific product to a specific clientel (sp?), but nothing more. I publish my "preliminary beta" work here. Please forgive the length of this posting. It should

Shame on you Woodlouse!  ;D
I kid here (and no I'm NOT a goat) there is an axiom in the PC business I live by.  That is, If it aint broke, don't "fix" it... since I support Macintosh AND Intel platforms I encourage folks to stay with what they know best. This is the only strategy for support personell.  Ugly things can happen outside of this montra.  ;D
