Sound

Postby x_jasper » Thu Jun 15, 2006 2:55 am

I have an engine sound which is an audio clip of a fly past.

As you can appreciate for the duration of the clip there is a pitch change, nulling at the overhead point, then falling back again as the aircraft moves away.

Does anyone know of a utility which can sample the entire clip, and average-out the pitch ?

Probably a long shot, but just wondering if there are any sound guru's out there.

sound guru's

Eh i guess you can call me that  ;D ;D ;) just kidding, but i am a sound guy at my church and its one of my hobbies.

One of the best free programs out there is called Audacity, I think it MAY be able to help you, if not what you want you can atleast cut out a small portion of the clip and use that.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

PM me or post here if ya need any help

Also this wasnt the best topic area to post in, perhaps general disscussion would be best.... Expect it to be moved by a mod  ;D

Thanks BAW

Yes we have audacity, it's very good. Although you can export a selection of the file as .wav etc, what it cannot do is take a mean point in terms of frequency and 'pull' the entire file to that value. Audacity can do this in amplitude but not frequency.

Wave gold came close with it's doppler effect, but even that just shifts the entire spectrum in unison.

I get the feeling it is going to be no simple task, probably software to do this will be costly.

It's actually a Merlin engine sound. Now, where's my mate with his V12 Jaguar ? ;D
