Could you try using punctuation?  I dont quite understand, sounds more like a browser issue to me if its not downloading.  Seriously, try writing sentences, youll get more help/

My Windows XP Pro is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) unboxed version, and Microsoft refuse to allow me to download any updates at all.
It only seems to work for the official, expensive, boxed version, purchased separately by the user... :'(...!

M$ doesn't support OEM versions of their windows products. You have to go back to the original supplier of your windows version and see if they have an updated drivers disk etc.,. Otherwise acquire a non OEM copy of the windows version you want and do a cold install. It's the only way to get around your problem.

You can still update Windows OEM and download from their website. They do not provide technical support for free with OEMs, if that is what you mean.

emmanuel, was the problem due to you not clicking on the bar up top when it tries to download the validation software?

It would appear that the much cheaper, OEM, unboxed, disc versions of Windows XP have special dealer/supplier registration/installation details which Microsoft will not recognise when attempting to download any updates...;)...!
Only official (very expensive) boxed versions of the program, purchased independently, are recognised by MS... >:(...!
(Which is why I cannot download the SP2 update, or install the free CD version)... ;)...!

Paul, call MS customer support and have your base code refreshed. Looks like you are in the 'blacklist' range.

I have OEM Windows XP installed on my machine and last week when I did a reformat, before doing so I took out all the parts and gave her a good cleaning.

After reinstalling Windows it told me that Windows had detected many hardware changes and I had three days to register it.

Mind you I just opened the CD that came with my computer, never been used before.

After going to the registration it told me that the version had been installed on too many machines. How is this? I just pulled the shrink wrap off.

Well after about 10 minutes on the phone with someone that doesn't speak human I finally got him to understand what I did, explained the reformat and cleaning and told him where I purchased it.

He then gave me a code (40+ digits) to enter on screen and Im good to go!
A major hassle especially since I didnt write the said code down for future use.

Now I can go to Windows Update and download, and also have installed the Validation tool to see what would happen and all is good.

This makes me wonder if PC manufacturers use a similar code for all thier pcs they install Windows on??

I have an OEM copy of XP, as do a few friends of mine, all can goto the M$ website & get downloads / updates etc.

I'm puzzled why some others can't.

Speak to M$ direct about it.
