Before this turns into a flame war, lets all remind ourselves of Sim V's standing on pirating and leave it at that.

Cheers

if ya ask me I think nothing is wrong with Piracy when the company makes tons more money then they spent on the project to begin with. I feel they shouldn't care if some people found ways to copy their product AFTER they made their profit.

Piracy would upset me if I spent my money to design a product and I didn't make the money I invested in the project and generated some profit from it.

Example. You have a producer that spends 14 million to create a movie.

The first week of realease the movie grossed 23 million bucks at the box office. The producer should be pleased that he made and extra ton of Millions dollars off his project and shouldn't give a damn if someone is making about $2,000 a week selling copies of his movie at $10 or $5 bucks each. That is chump change compared to what the producer is actually making. Hell by the time the movie is out of theatres an average of (3 weeks) the movie will have made approx. 40 million dollars and he only spent 14 million to begin with.

Corporate greed, if you look at who buys boot leg pirated videos. It is people who can't afford to waste money on dvd or go to the movies. so I think it is a fair deal to pirate. I know I wouldn't care about piracy if I made what I put into the project and made a descent profit off it.

Well, that's just sad. I can see the concept of capitalism is slowly dying.

I had started a rather good counter-arguement, but then thought, why bother? I learned a long time ago it's impossible to challenge a pirate on their justifications for doing so.

What are you gonna do?

I think I'll make a really crappy movie - pretty easy since I have no movie making skills - and wait for it to lose money.

Then I'll ask A/SGT to send me money so I can make up my loss and break even.  If he wants to be my partner if my movie made money I'm sure he will have no problem being my partner if my movie lost money.

He will also have to contribute money to all other movie makers who have lost money.

Since that isn't practical we'll just let our national governments redistribute the wealth so that no one makes more than his fair share and no one loses more than his fair share.  Even though I don't know anything about movie making and the result was pretty lame I put a lot of time and effort into it - maybe as much as Spielberg or Coppola.

Redistribution of wealth will ensure that people will be rewarded not for the popularity of their creations (how many people will pay for it) but by some other intangible measure - from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.

You should have used Linux's GIMP. It is almost just as good from all accounts as Photoshop and free. :o You can do anything with it - anything photoshop does GIMP does I think.

I took a class last year that used mostly photoshop.  I loved it, and through my teacher I was able to get Photoshop 7 for around $30.  And yes it is a legit disk ;)

Some of the addons for it...eh...not so much.  The way I see it when it comes to software like this.  Its way overpriced IMHO.  $650 for a program that probably took less time to make then something like Flight Sim that you can get for 20 bucks ::)  I know programs like this take time and effort.  But really is it worth $650 ::)  How often will you really use it, after using it every day for nearly a year it does get a little old after awhile.

Pirate is a whole different story.  But the way I see it is that if companies want to charge big bucks for their programs then they shouldnt get mad when a few people get find a way to get a freebie.  Not everyone who loves their programs can afford 650 bucks.  You can litteraly get a halfway decent car for that :P  Its just a cheap little plastic disk (probably cost the company 2 cents) that is only needed for an install.  Not really worth that kind of money to me ::)

Yes i think your right on Gimp, great program if you don't want or need the stuff of the more expensive software.

As far as pirating, how about you losers go get a job, you know a real one 40-60 hours a week. But here is the catch do it for free ;)
Or open yourself a store, selling anything you  like, then when someone tells you they cant afford it but really want it give them thier stuff for free.

With your line of thinking this shouldn't bother you at all, as a matter of fact it is the right thing to do.

Why is it that if i can afford it I should pay and since you can't you should get it free???

Your one of them people that sit at home and wait for the check in the mail, the free rent and food stamps aren't you?

Makes me sick all these people thinking they are "owed" everything. People ranging from using software to living in a flood zone demanding money to live off from. All of you make me ill.

If you can't afford it then you don't need it ;)

Actully I belive that software is knowlege and should be free.

Have you gone to college? no need to answer, that is a place that you attend to attain knowledge, it isnt free.
You want free knowledge go to a library.

Bottom line is it is no different from walking into a store and putting stuff in your pocket, it is stealing plain and simple.
