Found my first flight sim disk!!!!!!!

Postby brantmacga » Sun Dec 04, 2005 11:07 pm

Well, I found my MS FS 4.0 disk a few days ago, but sadly, it doesn't work. When I put the disk in, it said the disk needed to be formatted. I got that sim when I was about 8 yrs. old and absolutely fell in love!! Man that takes me back. Just a little line separating a white sky from the crayola green ground. I thought that was the most awesome thing ever. I remember you could even change the color AND size of your plane. Anyone else have fond memories of their first sim?

My first sim was Chuck Yeager's Flight Simulator. I also had the aircraft factory along with it, and spent many, many hours playing around designing my own aircraft.

I loved going into space with the SR-71 8)

The first MS sim I flew on was version 4. I got hooked on it at a friends house. Not too long after, We bought a computer and got FS5. Wasn't there a version between FS5 and FS98?

Yes first Sim I had was Chuck Yeagers. God I loved it. That F-4 mmm :D I still to this day want to play that. Still have the disk but I lost the book with the answeres  to the "security" questions. It asked me once what is the weight of the B-52. Googled it and the correct weight never worked damn it Yeager and your false book of education! ;D

Then I got cfs1 and FS98
FS2000<- never played much because by the time I got a computer good enugh to run it FS2002 was just about out.
Then of course fs2002 and cfs3 for a short time before that great game died.
Now fs2004 bring it on fs10 im ready! ;D

I had Chuck Yeagers flight sim, one of them. I understand that he had two out at about the same time. Anyway, I always loved "barn storming" the hangers with the F-16. ;D

LOL, I had one of those - I also seem to remember that we would just sit there patiently for 5-8 minutes whilst it was loading - imagine waiting that long now for a game to load, we'd be tearing our hair out!!!

My very first sim was... I can't remember. :-[

I began very early with the simulated flight and I'm beginning to show my age. :(

The first sim ever I can remember using was called "F117 Stealth Fighter" on amiga. It was the first sim where I was able to land on the runway and using the gear. This is the reason I remember it. Before then... well... I was able to take-off, but the plane was doomed never to fly again. ;D

Going back to FS, all the versions previous FS98 went abandonware some time ago. In fact I remember finding them on various abandonware sites and even downloaded them with the intention of try them out as soon I found a slow enough PC (I should have them burned somewhere, in fact).

If you want to try again the retro experience of flying on FS4 try serching the net. ;)

Ooooooooohhhh yeh! I remember chuck yeager and f117 stealth fighter. I remember I had one called Combat Air Patrol, which had what i thought were awesome graphics for its time, but i could NEVER get the sound to work. You pretty much just flew around kuwait and shot missles. it was still pretty cool though.

OMG! I had that! I used to like creating my own missions where all the 'targets' where in a straight line and god it was hard to dock with the tanker, memories. When you think of the pitifull power of the Atari ST, I thought the planes in it where pretty good. My fav was the F-111 I seem to remember, mainly because it could carry the most bombs!

Mine too was FS 4.0. I remember playing that on my brother Commodore 64. I can still feel the humid summer air. :o :)

I started out with 4.0 too. Ahhh, the memories. Green grass and painfully blue sky as far as the eye could see. Despite it's claim of "dynamic scenery"...

I've seen my disk a few times in passing while cleaning up around the house, it's probably long since become unreadable. No matter, I found a downloadable version of 4.0 at the Flight Simulator History website. It's not very fun by todays standards, but the brief surge of retro was pleasant.
