Strange user accounts.

Postby Jimbo » Tue Aug 23, 2005 9:05 am

Well i have windows XP Home edition installed.

The other day i took a look into the User accounts from control panel, and with my account and one other i created, i found another account which i never created.
Its called "ASP.NET Machine A....." and this appears to be a separate password protected account.
Anyone else seen this, because i havent a clue what it is!
Cheers Everyone, and much appreciated.

James :)

Automated stuff for the ASP.NET stuff running on IIS/PWS or another webserver thing.

I have a 'SQL Administrator' accont that came from Visual Studio (probably VS2003), as i don't have any webserver stuff running on this machine. My Win2K machine that has a full IIS install has the same 'ASP.NET Machine A...' user

Is this a problem e.g privacy and should be deleted?...Or is it ok and should be left where it is.

Thanks Ivan.

That account is needed for correct operation of ASP clientside (and serverside if you run webpages), so don't delete it. As it technically is a guest account with slightly elevated priveleges, there is no risk.

If I remember correctly, this account is also created when you install the .NET Framework. So, if' you've installed any .NET dependant Apps, like Paint.NET, then it's normal :)

I think if you use Window's Update, you can also choose to install it.

Thats cause you problem don't run any .net apps. You'll have problems when you do though. IF you have ATI drivers, their newer drivers have .NET dependant apps.

The account is not spyware/virus/bad thing. Like mentioned before, it comes with .NET framework. Just leave it as is.

Ah, yes don't we all have this account...lol :)

I noticed it awhile back and looked up on google what it is used for and then left it there as it isn't doing any harm.. ;)

Especially since I'm taking classes which require the use of visual studio and all of its components.. :)
