Video capture

Okay guys I'm struggling. I'm using Movie Maker in XP (with SP2) to try and capture some video from my shiny new Samsung VP-D352 camcorder, I've connected it via the USB port. The sound is perfect but the picture is very jerky. Any ideas?

Do the usual blow into both the cable and the USB port.

If that dosen't work, I'd say a hammer would do nicely.

I've got the big rubber mallet out already, I think the PC is going to have a horrible shock if it doesn't start being more co-operative

Hi Mark. Make sure first of all the video source is setup for PAL or NTSC. I had this problem, my tapes were PAL, but my camera is NTSC as i bought it in the states. I had the same problem until i chaged that option in settings.

I can't find PAL or NTSC markings on the tapes, they just say DV, which I'm guessing is digital video....

Use a i-link or firewire cable (IEEE1394, if you know the standards). Two names for one single cable. Both your camcorder and your computer should have a ilink/firewire connector on it.

If you computer does not, spend around $10 on a firewire card for your computer. You won't regret it.

USB isn't really good for this. I used to have the problems your describing with USB. I think its dropping frames, in which case there are some options that you can use to correct this. Unfortuately, I have never used movie maker and am not sure if it even has these options.
