battlefield 2, my thoughts

Postby marick626 » Fri Jun 24, 2005 11:04 am

you are all welcome to critizise ;)

Well I just downloaded battle field 2 and I need to tell you, that game isnt for the faint of video cards. I have an ati radeon x850xt and it gets a bit lagy at some points. And also It has allot of bugs (considering its a demo). The jets and helos are by far the coolest ive seen yet in the battlefield saga and the buggys are way cool to drive. It does get a bit boring considering the fact you need to use the same map but its all good. The map beats any old battlefield map by a mile. ;D Anyway, its a good game and I only wish half the people who download it are able to play. :(

my rating for the game (as far as Ive seen in the demo)

7/10 :-*

great graphics by the way ;D

ps: my name is marick626 if you get to find me in the battlefield (mostly flying jets)

I get no lag playing against the computer, but, when playing on-line I need a really low ping to get a smooth lag free experience.

I love BF2, but, I loved Desert Combat for BF 1942.

The system requirements are self defeating, imo, plenty of people won't rush out & spend

Imagine the outcry if the next edition of flight Simulator required a Geforce 6 series as a minimum requirement!

fs2006 will support HDR, which means Pixel shader 3, which does indeed tranlate to a geforce 6 min req to play with all effects on. However, that is pure speculation (the min req). Personally, I hope that the min req is a geforce 6. That way, they can squeeze more details and effects into the engine without worrying about how to scale it down for lower end users whom won't be that much lower.

As for bf2, amazing gfx, crappy gameplay. I don't like it all that much.

BTW, its so taxing on performence b/c it has dynamic shadows/lights and all and the maps are huge. Think of it as a BAD merger between the doom 3 and half life2 engine. To top that, the engine isn't as optimized as it should be (though its considerably better than other EA game engines, like MOH: Pacific Assualt).

You've got a real tendency to weave opinion and fiction in with your facts, don't you?  (Perhaps that's why your "tutorials" didn't go so well in the OC board.)

If it's speculation on your part, why start the sentence with something as conclusive as "FS2006 will support HDR, which means Pixel shader 3, which does indeed translate to a geforce 6 min req to play with all effects on"?

You don't know.  You said so yourself.  Yet you put it out there in a way that seems factual.  Once again it's not until someone gets past all that before they find out you don't know what you're talking about... ::)

First, the tutorials were meant as jokes. I didn't meant to pass those off as a truth.

Second, my statement up there was highly simplified as this thread is not about fs2006, but I will elaborate.

HDR is the future of gaming, or rather, graphics. Put simply, it allows for more realistic rendering of lighting (a very butchered definition, though). It is being implemented in current generations on a limited scale (far Cry-patch 1.3, HL2-soon to come with long coast), but almost all future game engines will feature it (take a look at epic's unreal 3, or the reality engine from artifical studios).

I am quite confident that fs2006 will support HDR because of what is stated above, but also because HDR is a pixel shader 3 feature available in dx9c and MS loves to demo and tout the advantages of its API (what company doesn't)

That is why I sound conclusive because it seems logical for them to do that. It would like me saying Half life 3 will be released on steam. While it is true that valve could release it retail only, it is pretty logical to conclude that it will available as a steam release also.

Am i 100% fs2006 will use HDR, NO. But am I pretty sure that there is a good chance that they will.

What is pure speculation is the min requirement (which is why I put 'min req' right after 'pure speculation'). It depends on how they implement HDR. If the game requires it, then a 6 series is indeed required. If the game has it in as an option, then the ming req will be lower.

They also said that about the Monster-Voodoo (two GPUs) back in 2000. ::)

Except this time its being implemented in a variety of current games already and many game engines in development also support it. Plus, HDR has been in CGI for years. It just now that they implement it in gaming gfx. The same is also true of shaders.
