I've never had this problem & can't think of an obvious solution. It might be quite simple to fix & someone else might be able to help. Of course, you could forget IE altogether & try Firefox. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/

Many members here swear by it & it works fine with AOL.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Hagar,

I have used IE for a few years now and would only change if last resort or 100% compatible and easy to use browser came along.  It may be here I don't know.
(I would have downloaded but 10 minutes later and I have only downloaded 200kb!!  1hr+ left.  I know I had it on a cover disc the other day, just got to find it as I may end up using it the way IE plays up and explorer suddenly uses 99% cpu resourses and I have to reset comp dunno why)
Eno,

I don't restart IE or computer after I have made the above pictured changes (Changed to automatic update page).  It works until I next start the computer.

My security is as below.

Hagar, once I find that disk I will install.

I have broadband  (523kb) so should have downloaded within a few minutes at most. :-(

Good God, man....throw IE out the window.

Well, wait.  Don't.  If you install Moz (which I  would recommend to all but the - no, I'd recommend it to everyone)...but don't get rid of IE if you're using Windows...You won't be able to use windows update if IE isn't installed.

Freakin' MS...
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Hagar,

Can I have Firefox installed / runing without having to uninstall / change defaults  from IE?
Sort of test firefox first before commiting to it.

(Managed to download it at normal speed today... must have been a net problem last night.)

Have to work tonight :-(  (Overtime) so will read when back on monday morning.

Thanks,

John

Firefox is independant of IE.

You can even use both at the same time.

With Firefox, get the Launchy add on. It allows you to open any page you are viewing in Firefox with IE. I love Firefox, no problems and love the features with it.

On you IE problems, I too have never heard this one before. I can't for the life of me think of any setting in IE or XP that would cause it to constantly revert back to those settings.

Could be a virus, worm or trojan. Strongly suggest running a scan, AND not with just your personal Anti Virus program. There are others online that will do a free scan. I recommend Stop Sign. It's what I use as it does it all. Virus protection, add and pop up blocker, a very good firewall and an email scanner.
It found things my other security stuff didn't and fixes them all. The registered version, which I am now running is excellant.

Have you tried a Sys. Restore to the last known good configuration when IE was working properly? This won't fix any problems if you have a virus or such, but will if it is just an IE problem.

Also, as a last resort, reinstalling IE might be worth a try.
