FS9 Verses Half-Life 2 Graphics

Postby Spidious » Fri Nov 26, 2004 12:14 am

Well I finally got my free Half-Life 2 game that was part of my video card purchase. The graphics and speed of this engine are amazing ! They blow Doom 3 out of the water ! I wish there was some way that FS10 had this same type of engine. The FPS that I get on the game is so great I loose track of time ! The water effects are some of the best I have seen. All the objects are so detailed it just amazes me !

I want FS10 like this !

If you have the game post your vote. But only if you have the game or have seen the game played or the download movies of the game. Actual game play is just like the movies....

Well I cant really say because the two graphics are made for different types of gameplay but put the world on that engine for FS I dont think a system today could run it IMHO :P

The idea is that games like Half-Life don't have a wide-open space arround them (usually are limited to a path and surrounding objects, but you couldn't walk free in any direction for miles). Because of that, huge optimisations can be made. On the other side, a game like Flight Simulator must render the world arround you in any direction. Imagine how many objects would require an entire city modelled like the streets you walk in Half-Life for example. For this kind of games, even the open sky above your head is just a hack (a wall with the required texture), not a real open sky.

...I guess if the question comes down to " would you like FS to sport the graphics, effects, FPS etc etc rendered in the whole world, that show up on Half-Life 2".. then the answer must be a resounding Yes!

One small request guys,

Could anyone mention the minimum system requirements to play Half Life 2.

Currently i get decent frame rates in flight simulator 2004. So, can i expect the same or less frame rates when playing HL2?

Can't really say what the min specs to play the game are. But if you look at my computer specs in my signature that might give you a idea. I do not have a really fast graphics card. But during one of the test I was running at 57 fps at 800x600 and 37 at 1024x768. Both at 32 bit.

As far as the flight simulator doing the graphics. I personally would be willing to have the pauses in the game (loading new section). But at the same time realize that for somebody to put a whole city 3D and be able to fly/walk/run/drive/ride over/thru it like I can with HL2 would be next to impossible. But i really would like them to do something with the water. Kinds of ruins the water planes. Orr while flying over water. True I have found many different modifications to the water on different site to help. But think it will never look as good as the water does in HL2  :-[

Spidious, I know you have been around here for a while, but I think you are stretching some of the forum posting rules a tad.....could you perhaps rectify it, since we all play in the same sandbox ?  I would assist, but I'm not a member at the board where you linked your signature image from..........

Actually it was from two of my sites I have. The picture was stored on my Die Cast collection page. And the link went to my PT Cruiser Car Club Site. Sorry about the hyperlink. I actually like them on other forum. Makes it easy to see the persons web sites.

Sorry I did not see that rule listed. I just copied my signature from the PTE Forum I frequent as "Spiderman"

I changed it, sorry !

Sorry also if I put in the wrong section. Sometimes is really hard just where a comment should be made ?

While at it where the heck are the rules you referred to ?
