WinXP SP2 Sound Problem

Postby KD_VB_FS » Wed Aug 18, 2004 8:02 pm

I've recently installed WinXP SP2 Pro. as a second OS with WinME, everything went well on the setup, and I installed the latest drivers for my soundcard and graphics card.. Now the problem is; the sound is WAY louder than WinME even when the main volume is at 5% or so.. I don't know what's wrong but the speakers aren't standing the new volume, they start to struggle when the volume reaches 50% while they can easily handle a 100% value without any noticeable distortion..  ???

In few words: upgrading to XP gave me a brand new 100 Watts RMS amplifier from the same soundcard! IT IS MAGIC!  ;D

Any solutions?

p.s: specs in signature.

Definately. Pick up a big Harmon/Kardon Amp, thoes big speakers that look like a full size coffin, a woffer that's the size of a small washing machine! Oh boy I hope the house is bolted to the foundation.  ;D

My solution, Windows hasn't officially released SP2 yet. What you probably have is a Release Candidate. That's one that's in the final stages of sorting the bugs out. A lot of people with the RC version are complaining of problems. From what I've heard, SP2 is also taking away some functionality from XP in turn for the added security. Remove it and just install Windows with SP1 for now. Wait until Microsoft releases it on Windows Update at the end of the month.

Yeah, i've been thinking about those little Bose things called speakers..! Small as an apple they could seriously blow your nerves and make you walk naked in the rain with a flame in your head!  :o
But hey, they're just speakers, no?!

So for now, i'll stick with the old WinME buddy, until M$ can tell that huge difference in volume.. Wich reminds me; are they so deaf they could crank it up without sensing something?? No wonder they never listened to us 'FS freaks' before! LOL  ;D

You'll find its a setting in windows or your soundcard manager, SP2 doesnt amplify anything, you just never had it turned up some setting before you installed the update.
