What is DirectX and what does it do? I believe it's part of Windows. How can I find out what version of the DirectX I have?  How can i get the latest version of Direct X?

Thanks

Bubblehead, Hit START then RUN and type in dxdiag and hit OK. This brings up the DXdiagnostic tool which tells you what version you have and all the tests which can check it out with your machine. Very short tests but a good thing to have to start troubleshooting when you have problems with games......As everyone always asks, "Have you checked your DX?"

The only question that hasn't been answered is where: it is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en . I have 9.0b, and it crunches clouds in FS!

Here's a thing I noticed about DX9.0b..........

The files will corrupt occasionally and it needs to be re-installed. I will define briefly what I do.

If I have problem where Multiplayer, sound, or graphics are involved, I will re-install Dx9b as an early attempt at a fix.

If, after installing over itself, it finds a missing or corrupt DX9 file, it will ask for a re-boot.

If it checks the installed files and finds no errors, the install program ends and doesn't ask for a re-boot.

I downloaded the standalone version from the MS Dowload centre, so I could save it to disk like any other driver, so I always have it onhand.

Here is the Link to the Re-distributable version:

Does what the name says.

For example, allows the Graphics Card to directly access system RAM w/o using the CPU.

Needs enabling by software app and Card driver.

DirectX has only recently become "Microsoft" and "part of Windows". It was a third party developement that became important enough, (and essential enough) for MS to integrate into their Op Sys.
