Help Wanted

Postby goball65 » Tue May 18, 2004 11:48 am

Finally got my act together in an effort to d/l music from lp records and cassettes onto my hard drive.
I am looking for a reasonably priced program that will reduce scratchy sound from some real old records and also have built in recording levels.

I am currently using RIPEDITBURN however I never got my degree in rocket science so if anyone knows of a pgm out there that is ?user friendly? (yeah right) would they please let me know.

I a m using a Santa Cruz Turtle Beach sound card using a patch cord from the headphone output on the stereo to the line in on the sound card.
Thanks in advance 8)

Hey GoBall...I was beginning to worry about you, haven't heard from you in ages!  lol

Okay, this may help what you're trying to accomplish.  There's a freeware app called "Audacity" that will let you remove background noise from audio files.

I used it for a project recently and it seemed pretty good.  It would take a while, though, to remove scratchiness from all of the songs...since you'd have to do them one at a time.

My suggestion, and I absolutely HATE having to say this to you, would be to pick up as many as you can on CD, then bring them in directly from the CD to your computer.   If they're records and cassettes, chances are they're older songs, and would be available on compilation CDs, especially the better known ones.  This would help keep that cost down.

The link to Audacity is http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Good luck!
Great edit, Bob.
