Painkiller

Postby Politically Incorrect » Sun May 02, 2004 7:01 pm

Hey maybe someone could help?!!!
I just got Painkiller, once again Far cry was sold out!
Installed it and started to play and it is unbearable!
I have a FX5200, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, 768 mb Ram. And all other high resource games run fine (FS9, Raven Shield etc) but this one when the baddies come the frame rates get so bad it is like watching a slide show  >:(
I went in to the options and lowered every possible setting and to no avail, the game just SUCKS!!, same with the sound! all sounds constantly skip, tried all possible settings nothing.
The game is absolutly horrible!!! Has anyone else experianced any trouble with this game?

It's your GFX card. The FX5200 sucks in 3d FPS,like UT and Painkiller. I even doubt that Far Cry will run smoothly with it...

Other games such as IronStorm, Jedi Knight Academy, Tomb Raider all work great! DO you think it is the card, or is it possible that they once again release a game to make the money and worry about fixing the problem later with the typical 100MB update patches? ;D
That is one reason I was putting off buying it, as with other games I usally wait for a few months so you can buy the software that has most issues fixed. I hate to think that once again I forked out $50 for another beta version!!!

The newer the game, the more resources it requires. The games you listed do still look quite well, but they're based on older graphics engines, which don't need that good graphics cards to work well.
And Painkiller is a very new game,so it really needs a good graphics card.

You now have three options...

First: Tweak your system like hell....
Second: Play the game with less details....
Third: Spend ~150$ and buy yourself a new graphics card....

Your choice. ;) ;D

You forgot the fourth choice! Take it back and get your money refunded! ;D

That is what I did.
I looked at the game forums and it seems even people with gaming machines have nothing but trouble!! Nothing but bugs in this release, Dreamcatcher says they are working on updates.
I turned every possible setting down as low as it would go, had no apps, or processes running every possible "tweak" and still nothing but crap.
So when they finally release the game as a whole program instead of a beta, I might think about re-purchasing it, probably not, I think I'll join the 1000's others and boycott Dreamcatcher!
