Unzippers

Postby Hagar » Wed Apr 28, 2004 8:38 am

Most of my tutes are based on using WinZip to extract files. I've just noticed that the latest evaluation version now has a time limit. The previous versions never did so this causes a problem for new users. Not only that but some alternative unzip utilities don't extract files in quite the same way. I know WinXP has an onboard unzipper utility that I have no knowledge of so this could be the same.

Can anyone recommend a similar free utility I can use in future. If it's not quite the same as WinZip this might involve me revising all my tutes & also reconfiguring my own files. I would obviously rather not do so.

I was slightly concerned when i saw that, but i stuck with Winzip 8.1, i also have WinRAR for files types winzip can not do.  I only use xp to open them, but now winzip does that.

Thanks guys. I recently gave WinRar a try but preferred WinZip. Couldn't see any advantage so I uninstalled it. I'll try it again. Can it open CAB files?

Yes Doug, it can do:

PS. I only have it set up to associate itself with RAR and ACE, but you can still open other types (eg. CAB) when they are not associated with Winrar.
