Anyone using vfr photographic scenery UK?

Postby Havoc » Sun Dec 14, 2003 1:42 pm

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying vfr photographic scenery of the UK. It's supplied by justflight.com.

Just wondering if anyone has any comments on the software.
It recomends flying at altitudes of 2000ft+ for best resolution, but sooner or later you've got to land!

So, whats the resolution like approaching and landing at an airport?

Thanks for any comments.

Havoc.

I really really like Just flite's kit, The Dambusters add on especially.

I don't have the package in question, but knowing Just Flight's software, I'm sure it'll be excellent.

But so is most of the freeware I've seen.......

Yep, I agree with Scania. Knowing JustFlight any VFR scenery you buy from them will be stunning. Make your screenshots look SO much better ;D

I've been using VFR 1 & 2 which covers all of Southern England and overall I've been impressed. At 2,000 feet plus the scenery is stunning and I can recognise known features (even my own house !!) and navigate by visual references to roads, railways etc. At lower heights the scenery gets gradually more blurred but is certainly no worse than the original FS2003 scenery. The water effects are particularily good with the Thames estuary stunning.

However I would offer a few words of warning. I had some problems at the boundary where the VFR 1 & 2 meet but this may just be my incompetence. Also note that the scenery is flat and you will loose the city buildings so if zipping around sky scrapers in your helo is your thing this is not for you (however it is simple to deactivate the VFR scenery via the scenery library then reactivate it later). Lastly they perform best when fully installed on your HD and at 1.8 Gb each you will need plenty of free disc space.

Overall I have been very pleased with them both and will add the rest of the UK when I up my HD capacity soon.

I have 3 of them. They work best on VFR flights at around 2000 feet. You can then actually use them to navigate, which is good fun. The view then can be quite amazing.  ;D

Also, Gary Summons British airports work well with them if you are interested.

On the downside, they do take up a lot of HD space and you need at least 512 megs of memory (IMHO). They can take a while to load.  >:(

Also, as mentioned above, you lose all buildings/skyscrapers etc. I find this a real downside, so I tend to 'disable' my VFR photograhic scenery quite often.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments and I now have the vfr scenery (northern england)

And it really does add to the realism.
I do a little skydiving in the north of england and as soon as I flew towards our airfield all the land marks pop into view, instantly recognisable.

Yes the textures are a blurred below 2k but I can live with that.
My only concern is that if I do a 180 turn, then the scenery is a little blurred for a few seconds. As if it's still loading, or getting processed by the graphics card.
Anyone else have that problem?
I am running it with fs2004 might try it with 2002 see if it improves.

My system is....

P4 2.4
500mb ram
ati 9000 128 mb.
