Dual Controls

Postby westside » Mon Mar 23, 2009 11:40 am

Has anyone figured out how to get a set of dual controls working with the hardware currenly availble. I have a Saitek yoke and petals and was wondering if that could be doubled up for a co-pilot station.
I was thinking of some kind of USB switching device so the controls couldn't be used at the same time but in a transfer of control.
Any help on this would be apprecitated.

With the paid version of FSUIPC I understand that this is possible.  I have a simpit that is "left seat" only, so not something I have encountered.

Considering that you can have multiple controllers controlling the same function(twist stick and pedals both operate the rudder simultaniously, or buttons on controllers controlling the same function on the keyboard)
I think all you need to do is plug two in and.....Viola! dual controls  8-)

i believe FSX does support multiple joysticks, including redundant mappings... so like Rom said, just plug them in and fly

most likely, the one moved last will override the other and so on...

Cheers

Thanks for the input guys. I have tryed a second joystick of a different make and it seems to work just fine. I am afraid that identical hardware might not work as good. It is a fairly substantial investment ($400) to find out that it doesn't work.

Maybe you could drop $40 on two $20 sticks to see what happens....or even better, buy them from different stores so you can just take them back after the experiment......... ;)

Good call Romflyer. I think there is a guy here with a joystick that is the same as the one I already have. I will borrow it and see what happens

Thanks......

I have not, I assume it is Vancouver Island Virtual Airlines. I have chosen to keep my FS computer away from the internet at this time.

i wouldnt use 2 joysticks (bad expierence) my friend came over with his joystick so while i was on final with an a330 he pulled up and down (on glideslope) before crashing :( its better to get a yoke (not joystick) cut out the bar and attach 2 yokes to the bar! 2 yokes just like a 737 or 747 on fsx ::)

I have since worked out my problem and it was simple. I have purchased a new Saitek yoke and pedal set and by using the drivers for the hardware itself and plugging in the units after installing the hardware it recognizes them as two separate units. So far so good and it has worked for the pedals. I am currently awaiting the arrival of the yoke set. I am sure that it will install the same.

Success! I have recently installed the second yoke set into my simulator. There have been some minor driver issues but so far I have gotten FSX to recognize each piece of hardware separately. I have had to reinstall the drivers a few times due to the fact that the Aileron and Elevator controls on the second yoke would not respond but I downloaded the latest drivers last night and if it happens again I will use those instead. Due to this problem I have also resorted to pre flight checks of all controls and controllable surfaces. With the addition of the second yoke I also got anther throttle quadrant that I am using as tiller handle for ground operations. I will be posting a picture soon as I have forgoten how to do that on this site.

Peace
Mark
