although at US$ 1270, it would be a better deal to get a few LCD screens and a gauges package

but then, this is a starter kit... and hooking up screens and setting up a third party gauge package would be far more complicated than installing this thing

That's pretty nice. They've actually got a bunch of nice stuff on that site. They have a similar item as above, except for single engine prop planes (C172 etc) It has hardware knobs for all the controllable gauges (vor's, etc) and a fully integrated GPS button setup.

I think that'd be a pretty awesome way to go, really. At least for the more "casual" "hardcore" simmer lol. Those who want a nice hardware setup, but don't have the space/time/etc to devote to a full on simpit. Combine that with their radio panels and such, and you'd have a pretty slick setup really.

Look into the Goflight units for a "plug and play" approach to some instrumentation at a far cheaper price.

A question though, I enjoy flying everything from cubs to A380s and all the best the military has to offer, do you ever fly in something smaller and find it odd or awkward flying say a piper cub from the cockpit of a heavy? Or is it still the same good feeling of hey, I'm virtually there?

It sounds like you have definitely found a great way to enjoy the best of all aspects of this hobby.

Generic style really sounds like the way to go then. I have been searching around looking for a nice template or reference for the main panel, I would like to do a big screen out front, but for now, the dual monitors will have to suffice.

 From what I've seen in your simpit posts, a decent amount of components need to be wired in, how many computers & monitors do you have running in yours?

Your first purchase after the yoke and pedals needs to be a registered version of FSUIPC (get the one for fs2004 if that is what you're using) and WideFS.
