Using FSUIPC, GoFlight Config and Keyboard CMDS

Postby stevehookem » Sat Dec 27, 2008 12:41 pm

OK, here's the latest:

We want to program ONLY the CH Yoke, Pedals and Throttle Quad in FSUIPC.
We want to use the GoFlight Config Software for the GoFlight Modules.
We want to still have access to all the FSX keyboard commands.

Is this possible? Currently we have turned off "enable joysticks" in FSX. The Yoke, Pedals and THQ are working fine. Even after programming the GF modules (RP48 and GF-LGT) in FSUIPC and running the GFDisplay, the GoFlight modules don't show the lights and the landing gear only work one direction. When programmed with the GF Config, they all worked perfectly. Finally, we can no longer use some keyboard controls such as pressing the space bar and moving the mouse to look around. We still need that until we can get more modules to eliminate the keyboard completely.

I know that I am doing something wrong and I appreciate any help you can give. Please keep it simple!

We use the Ellie Systems avionics package via WideClient. All other modules are on the FSX computer.

Steve,

Wish I could help you more with FSX... but I don't use it.

In fs2004 the goflight software works, FSUIPC handles all the axis assignments (plusa lot of offset and keypress stuff),  and I can access all of the default keyboard comands that I want to use just fine.

I'm not sure what you are doing "wrong", or of some of this is "native issues" with FSX.

best,

We're flying!

I deleted all the "duplicate" keyboard and joystick controls in FSX. I then set-up the throttle quadrant in FSUIPC. I calibrated the yoke and pedals inside FSX (it works just as well as FSUIPC I've found using the CHCM).
The GoFlight modules were set-up inside GFConfig and work. I wish the FSUIPC interface was more like this! It is very nice to work with.

Another question: what is your procedure for starting up your computers and shutting down? Any order? Also, do you "select" ----> "esc" each gauge in Ellie before shutting down? I've found this is the only way to make them "stick" the next time I launch. If I just shut down this computer, I must resize them all again each time.

Steve,

FSUIPC is a very techincal piece of software that is the "Swiss Army Knife" of MS Flight Sim.  Like most "utilities", because it is so sophisticated, it can be complex to learn to use.  Requires a lot of reading and study and experimentation.

As to shutting off the Ellie Avionics gauges, there is a function in FSUIPC / WideFS that allows you to run and kill programs automatically across the network.  So you start the sim on the main machine and all of the other software that you need on the other machines starts up.  Then when you shut down the sim, all the other stuff shuts down too.

Otherwise I'm guessing the best option is to close the Ellie gauges before shutting off the machine.  Most softwre does not like having te power just killed while it is still running.   ;)  I'll relay your issue to the programmers at Ellie and see if there is a "fix" for just killing the machine in mid session.

best,

I wasn't just killing the power. I went to start, shut down. This quits each open program first, right? I thought this was the best way.....

When you use the FSUIPC "kill" command from the main sim computer, do your gauges come back in the correct position the next time?

If so, where is this located in FSUIPC? I can't find it. I'd love to boot both computers, launch FSX and have it start up the avionics across the network. That would be perfect!

John,

Do you use a GPS? If so, who makes it and how do you use it?

How do you get the weather to show in Ellie ND? I selected "WXR" and we have lightning and storms all around. They don't show up on the display though.

Steve,

Nope no GPS.  I use a flightplanner before each flight and paper charts.

The weather function in the Ellie ND is currently set up for using SA-WXR... and thrid party program.  the ND will take the output of any weather program (read the user guide online).....but as of right now... I don't think ther are any others.

Unfortunatly SA_WXR is no longer sold.  The guy stopped working on it right after the Ellie ND was released.  Ellie is planning on writing their own WX software interface.... but that will be latrer after the EICAS comes out.

best,

John,

I have SA_WXR. I have NO IDEA how to install it! haha

I read the manual, read the instructions at Ellie and I am completely lost. It seems to be more related to Project Magenta.

If you have a second, can you walk me through--step by step--on how I install this and make it work with Ellie. I also asked Ray at Ellie as well.

Basic question: does the SA_WXR go on the Ellie computer or the FSX computer? See how lost I am!

Steve,

SA_WXR can go on any machine included in the cockpit network.

John,

I have the folder with all the SA_WXR items on my desktop. What do I do with it? Move the entire folder to a new directory?

The Ellie and SA_WXR are on the same machine. No networking to worry about.

I don't know how to get point the image output to the directory that Ellie wants (I think it's C:\Weathermaps) and then make Ellie "see" C:\Weathermaps.

Do I "launch" SA_WXR somehow to start it? Or does it start when I hit "w" in Ellie?

I really want him to see the weather show up in the Ellie ND. He can make rain all over the place and the ND shows nothing.

John, can you help me get this to work?

Steve,

I have no idea whay you are having such problems.  Ellie sees the C:/weathermaps director by deafult, as I remember it.  The instructions in the SA-WXR and the Ellie docs are about as good an explanation as I coud give.

You start SA_WXR and get the range and mode set to what you want.  On the weather radar warm pu ( the colored bands) you will NOT see the image on the ND....... but once the radar is in scan mode.....the image is getting written to the directory.  Then with the ND running you hit "W" to toggle the weather display on and off.

A bunch of us have this combo running and it works OK.  The only issue yet to figure out is getting the SA_WXR range to "auto-scale" when the ND range is changed.

My guess is that Don will not attempt to do this with SA_WXR (since it is no longer being sold/supported) but will tackle his own weahter radar engine.

Have you set the SA_WXR configuration file to send the image to the ND according to the instructions in the manual?  If I remember correctly that is NOT the default setting.

best,
