ATi v Nvidia

Hi all,

Still looking for a deal on a new GPU.

Question as the title really. Mainly for playing FSX, is Nvidia really much better than ATi? Obviously I can get much more bang for buck with ATi. Eyeing a 6870 for

This sort of thread is garanteed to open up a hot debate....... or at least it used to be.

Personally I've just switched from ATI to Nvidia and the difference is marked. ATI might deliver more bang for the buck but I'm finding that FSX is smoother and the power usage and heat are less from more or less the same spec of card with the Nvidia. I was running a ATI 5770 and i've upgraded very slightly to the N550GTX. Not that much difference in the specs but a whole lot of difference in the sim.

I've got an Inspector tweaked Asus GTX 590 Graphics Card in my new machine & get horrible flashing window glazing bars that I don't get in another computer with an ATI card.
I use Ted Andrews RAF Buildings to put on my airfields & have never come across this flashing before so I'm considering getting a replacement AMD Radeon HD 6970.
Is this a better bet?

Personally, I would go with Nvidia as I never had a problem with them in the past or present. That and the fact that my favorite MMO (Eve Online) is optimized for it. But other than that, it's easy to install drivers with those cards. Before, and I'm not sure if this is still the case, I use to have an ATI-driven computer that required me to manually uninstall the drivers just to install new ones, but I still had problems with installing new ones from the official ATI website. I had to use 3rd party drivers to get it going. Since then, I have been favoring Nvidia.

Let's not forget that Nvidia has better driver updates as well.  ;)
